In this series, we examine China Inc.\u2019s next phase of \u201cgoing global\u201d and the complex, challenging international environment its companies have chosen to enter.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In early November, the chairman of one of China\u2019s top construction machinery makers was spotted touring potential factory sites in Piracicaba, a city in southeastern Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>The visit was another in a string of recent moves by major Chinese companies in the South American nation: food delivery giant Meituan has <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/big-tech\/article\/3310112\/chinas-meituan-bring-keeta-food-delivery-service-brazil-after-saudi-arabia-launch?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">entered the market<\/a> via its overseas brand Keeta, electric car maker BYD has <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/article\/3328433\/byd-opens-massive-brazil-plant-its-biggest-investment-outside-asia?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">started operations at a huge new plant<\/a> in the northeastern state of Bahia, and TikTok \u2013 owned by tech leader ByteDance \u2013 has pledged US$37.7 billion to build a data centre in Ceara, another northeastern state.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Perhaps previously best known in China for its national football team and majority share of the Amazon rainforest, Brazil is now emerging as a major investment hotspot, with Chinese companies of all sizes and types \u2013 state-owned energy giants, individual e-commerce vendors and everything in between \u2013 seeing its market as a fertile land of opportunity.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Brazilian visa application centre in central Beijing is now packed most weekdays.
