David Lammy\u2019s communications blitz has been shoved off the rails by his comments to The News Agents expressing support for rejoining the EU Customs Union. He said:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat is not currently our policy. That\u2019s not currently where we are. But you can see countries like Turkey with a customs union seemingly benefiting and seeing growth in their economy, and again, that\u2019s self-evident.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Government insiders tell Guido it\u2019s unlikely Lammy was making a fully thought-out move with his comments. No surprise there \u2013 the \u2018DPM\u2019 was candidly reflecting on an internal Labour battle over the EU kicked off by a Remainer kabal.\u00a0Don\u2019t say Guido didn\u2019t warn you\u2026<\/p>\n
One government source says the comments were probably and accident and another adds: \u201cWhat\u2019s he done\u2026\u201d A SpAd was forced to mop up after Lammy by saying Starmer\u2019s \u201cred lines are clear: there will be no return to the single market or the customs union.\u201d For how long\u2026<\/p>\n
