A teenager has been arrested after police disrupted a suspected drug deal in Liverpool city centre<\/a>. The officers had entered the pedestrianised area of Gower Street, near the Britannia Pavilion at 12.30am on Friday, December 5, following recent reports of drug use and supply in the area.<\/p>\n Police said a group of people scattered as they approached. Officers detained a boy who was acting suspiciously and carried out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act. He was found to be carrying a lock knife and a large bag of cannabis.<\/a><\/p>\n A 17-year-old boy from Widnes<\/a> was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis). He has been taken into custody to be interviewed.<\/a><\/p>\n Merseyside Police’s<\/a> Winter of Action, taking place between December 1 and January 31, 2026, is a major policing push to keep communities and town centres safe during and beyond the festive season by tackling crime, reassuring communities, and ensuring the city’s high streets are welcoming and safe for everyone.<\/p>\n Liverpool Targeted Policing Inspector David Grant said: \u201cThis arrest and our activity in the area underlines our ability to respond to information from the public about drug dealing.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a range of tools at our disposal to disrupt such criminality, and our quad bikes enable officers on the ground to conduct patrols in harder to access areas traditional police vehicle can\u2019t reach.<\/p>\n \u201cWhere we are told drug dealing is taking place we will take action because we know too well the harm it can bring.<\/p>\n \u201cDrug dealers often reply on violence and intimidation to maintain their illicit trade, carrying weapons and the obvious threat of serious injury or worse that carries.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are determined to take their weapons and drugs off them, and put them before the courts and we ask that the public continue to support these efforts by telling us where they are operating.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone who has information on drug dealing should contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or on Facebook<\/a> “Merseyside Police Contact Centre”.
