{"id":61464,"date":"2025-04-29T23:41:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T23:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/61464\/"},"modified":"2025-04-29T23:41:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T23:41:11","slug":"ayrton-senna-helmet-from-famous-1992-rescue-sells-for-record-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/61464\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayrton Senna helmet from famous 1992 rescue sells for record price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apr 29, 2025, 10:44 AM ET<\/p>\n<p>The helmet worn by Ayrton Senna during one of his most iconic Formula 1 acts at the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix has been sold for a record \u00a3720,000 ($966,449), auctioneers have said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rmsothebys.com\/auctions\/0125\/lots\/n0002-1992-ayrton-senna-mclarenhonda-formula-1-shoei-helmet\/#\/smallgallery_1312799\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RM Sotherby&#8217;s <\/a>have stated that the sale is a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rmsothebys\/status\/1916915565236564319\">world record<\/a> for auctioned race-worn helmets, surpassing the previous mark set by Charles Leclerc&#8217;s from the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/37823666\/charles-leclercs-monaco-grand-prix-race-helmet-raises-306000-emilia-romagna-flood-victims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fetched \u00a3262,700<\/a> ($352,315) at a charity auction benefiting flood relief efforts in Italy&#8217;s Emilia-Romagna region.<\/p>\n<p>Senna, the legendary three-time world champion, wore the helmet racing for McLaren for much of the 1992 season, including at Spa-Francorchamps where he famously helped rescue an unconscious driver after a crash.<\/p>\n<p>Ligier driver \u00c9rik Comas credits Senna with saving his life after the Brazilian stopped on track, cut off the car&#8217;s engine and held Comas&#8217; head until paramedics arrived following a shunt in practice.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>The helmet features Senna\u2019s signature yellow, green, and blue design, was made by Japanese manufacturer Shoei\u00a0RM Sotheby\u2019sEditor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>While Senna finished fourth in a 1992 championship dominated by Williams&#8217; Nigel Mansell, he still solidified his status as one of the F1 greats with three race wins and the ultimate act of sportsmanship.<\/p>\n<p>The helmet, featuring Senna&#8217;s signature yellow, green, and blue design, was made by Japanese manufacturer Shoei and sold at auction online by Sotheby&#8217;s between April 23-28.
