Britons can expect potentially disruptive weather into the new week after a weekend of downpours as low pressure systems dominate the forecasts.<\/p>\n
The Met Office forecasts<\/a> that heavy overnight rain<\/a> will linger into Saturday, December 6, across parts of northeast Scotland, while showers will be most persistent across south Wales and southwest England.<\/p>\n “Some of these will be heavy, with the odd rumble of thunder,” the weather<\/a> forecaster said.<\/p>\n The highest rainfall totals from Friday into Saturday will be over high ground in south Wales, southwest England, Cumbria, southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n Between 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected in these areas, most of which is expected fall in around six to nine hours.<\/p>\n This rainfall, in addition to already wet weather, could being localised flooding<\/a> and travel disruptions, especially in western areas.<\/p>\n “As Saturday draws to a close, attention turn to the next weather system gathering to the west. This system is set to bring almost a repeat performance, with another weather front extending across the country from west to east,” the Met Office said.<\/p>\n Sunday will bring a band of rain arching its way northeastward and spreading steadily across most of the United Kingdom<\/a>, but is expected to clear and leave a drier end to the weekend across much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n The rain reprieve is not expected to last long.<\/p>\n “Low pressure will dominate this weekend, bringing wet and windy conditions for many. As we move into the new working week, there is potential for more disruptive weather and further weather warnings may be issued,” the Met Office said.<\/p>\n The Met Office said there may be a potentially deep area of low pressure to the southwest of the UK after a rainy Monday.<\/p>\n “A deepening area of low pressure will approach the UK from the southwest later on Monday, bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds, which are likely to affect the UK between late Monday and early Wednesday,” Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said.<\/p>\n “This system has the potential to cause disruption, and severe weather warnings are likely to be issued over the weekend as details become clearer,” Keates said.<\/p>\n The exact track, depth and timings of the low pressure system are uncertain, making it difficult to determine where will be most impacted by strong winds and\/or heavy rain.<\/p>\n Much of December is expected to remain unsettled.
