Here\u2019s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.<\/p>\n
We start this week down in Holbeck on Saturday morning where Jamyang Buddhist Centre<\/strong><\/a> are holding one of their ever-popular Holbeck Jumble Sale<\/strong>s from 10am-1pm. With clothes accessories, household items and everything \u00a31 or cheaper, plus the caf\u00e9 and shop will be open. Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ.<\/p>\n Leeds Dads<\/strong><\/a> will be holding another free Soft Play<\/strong> session, 10am-12pm on Sunday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there\u2019s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org\/events<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Volunteers<\/strong><\/a> will be meeting at 10am on Saturday at Hunslet Cemetery<\/strong>, Middleton Road, to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.<\/p>\n The Church of the Nazarene<\/strong><\/a> host a coffee morning with affordable breakfast<\/strong> on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.<\/p>\n St Joseph\u2019s Primary School<\/strong><\/a> in Hunslet (LS10 2AD) are holding a Christmas Fair<\/strong> on Saturday from 11am-3pm<\/p>\n A Taste of Africa<\/strong><\/a> will celebrate Christmas in an African style with food, drinks, fashion, arts, crafts, beauty and wellness. It all takes place at Involve Community Centre in Hunslet (LS10 2QE on Saturday from 10am-5pm.<\/p>\n Saturday also sees Beeston Hill Community Association\u2019s Christmas Fair<\/strong><\/a> at Rowland Road WMC (LS11 6ED). Running from 12-5pm the fair has something for everyone including lots of children\u2019s activities, plus a mega raffle.<\/p>\n On Saturday afternoon the Beeston Repair Caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> launches. Bring broken electricals, cloths needing alterations, a bike that needs attention. The volunteer fixers will do their best to mend them. 1-4pm at St Luke\u2019s CARES shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.<\/p>\n Leeds United<\/strong><\/a> entertain Liverpool in the Premiership on Saturday evening, kicking off at 5:30pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.<\/p>\n The Hunslet Rogues<\/strong>, the young people\u2019s theatre company based at The Hunslet Club, have created a mashup by combining the best bits of The Wizard of Oz and Wicked. With dazzling performances, fantastic music, and plenty of surprises, The Wicked of Oz<\/strong> is set to be an unforgettable journey down the yellow brick road. They are performing two shows on Saturday and Sunday at 5:30pm. Equipment is provided so why not join them and help make sure the park looks its best for the Great Middleton Park Show next week.<\/p>\n Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights<\/strong><\/a> take on the Solway Sharks in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 4:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.<\/p>\n The James Farrell Concert Band will be performing a Christmas Concert<\/strong> on Sunday afternoon, 2-4pm at The Holbeck<\/strong><\/a> club on Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a Toddlers Christmas Tea Party<\/strong> at Cottingley Community Centre<\/strong><\/a> (LS11 on Tuesday 12-1:30pm. Book via 07432 702911.<\/p>\n The Beeston Christmas Tree Festival<\/strong><\/a> opens its doors on Tuesday 2:30-4pm at St Mary\u2019s Church on Town Street (LS11 8PN). It continues on Wednesday 10:30am-12pm; Thursday 2:30-4pm; and Friday 2-4:30pm, ahead of the Lantern Festival.<\/p>\n Leeds Sanctuary<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 is preparing a quiet kind of Christmas gathering \u2014 one that recognises that the season isn\u2019t always easy for everyone. Blue Christmas<\/strong><\/a> is a Christian service on Tuesday at 5:30pm at The Attic on Sheaf Street, LS10, creating a space for quiet reflection, compassion, and community.<\/p>\n Carden & Son Funeral Directors<\/strong><\/a> are holding their annual Christmas Memorial Concert<\/strong> on Tuesday, 6pm, at Hunslet Carr Sports & Social Club, moor Road, LS10 2JJ. This is an opportunity to keep the memory of loved ones alive. The community event is open to everyone.<\/p>\n Holbeck Together<\/strong><\/a> host their monthly Wellbeing Breakfast Morning<\/strong> on at St Matthew\u2019s Community Centre on Wednesday, 10am-12pm. As well as a cheap hot or cold breakfast there will be representatives from various agencies who can provide help and advice on a range of subjects to help you through the winter.<\/p>\n There is a drop-in councillor surgery<\/strong> at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.<\/p>\n There will be a Police Contact Point at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road on Thursday 10am-12pm; and another at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. \u00a0These are a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team<\/strong><\/a> in an informal setting.<\/p>\n Involve Community Centre<\/strong><\/a> is hosting a free Winter Warmer<\/strong><\/a> event on Friday afternoon,12:30-2:30pm. You are invited to join them for food and a get together with friends. Citizens Advice, the council and Green Doctors will also be on hand for those who need advice. Involve is on Whitfield Avenue in Hunslet, LS10 2QE.<\/p>\n Beeston\u2019s Christmas Lantern Festival<\/strong> returns on Friday with thousands of twinkling lights. The event starts at 4:15pm at three locations: St Mary\u2019s Church, St Luke\u2019s Church and Rowland Road WMC. Here there will be crafts, refreshments and real donkeys to pet. Then the donkeys will lead each group in procession to Cross Flatts Park for the main event. From 5:15pm in the park there will be the Salvation Army brass band, choirs, carols, free hot food, farm animals and a gift for every child.<\/p>\n
