A delighted Scotland super fan who took World Cup fever to new heights after booking a jaw-dropping 22 hotels across the USA, Mexico and Canada<\/a> says he’s hit the jackpot after his gamble has paid off. Daris Nesbit, from Bishopton, had gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure he was there to cheer on Steve Clarke\u2019s men<\/a> at next summer\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n

While most fans nervously waited for Friday night’s group stage draw<\/a>, the 24-year-old created an extensive plan to chase Scotland around North America from June 10 to June 24. Daris spent at least \u00a33,000 on each of his near-two dozen hotel rooms with the option to refund those he would not need, depending on the fixtures.<\/p>\n

Determined to beat the price surge, he had already shelled out on flights<\/a> to Boston – and that plan paid off as we were drawn into Group C<\/a> with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti. Group C games are scheduled to be played in the east coast of North America at three of Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Foxborough or East Rutherford.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Record after the draw, Daris said: “I don’t even know how to explain it. Because I’ve pre-booked Boston flights and Scotland have been put in Group C which means our games will take place in the east coast, I genuinely think I have saved myself thousands of pounds.<\/p>\n

“\u00a3300 with a 23kg bag from Barcelona, that’s all it cost me. I’ve got all my accommodation sorted and will now just cancel the other reservations I had. They were all refundable.<\/p>\n

“I was meant to go home on June 24 but I genuinely think with the beer tokens I have saved, if Scotland get deep into the tournament I’m staying. I managed to do Germany on a budget but the USA, with the amount of money that I’ve saved, just take a look at Skyscanner tonight, the prices will be going through the roof. Don’t get me wrong, it is a risk.<\/p>\n

“But jeezo, it’s a risk that has paid off. That is next level. I was pacing up and down worrying we were going to get put in the west coast – but out of every single group, Group C is literally the jackpot, and I’ve hit the jackpot.”<\/p>\n

Scotland<\/a> will play Brazil for the fifth time out of our nine qualifications for football’s biggest tournament after matches in 1974, 1982, 1990 and 1998. We managed a 0-0 draw against the South American Samba boys in 1974 but lost the following three matches 4-1, 1-0 and 2-1.<\/p>\n

There’s also a chance for redemption<\/a> against the Moroccans after they booted us out of France 98, hammering us 3-0 in the final group game, and Daris reckons we have enough to do it.<\/p>\n

The IT analyst said: “I said all along that I thought we’d get Brazil or Argentina. It’s going to be tough, but put your blood sweat and tears into this and let’s see what we can do.<\/p>\n
