The Frenchman highlighted the 27-year-old\u2019s attitude as one of his defining strengths. \u201cI\u2019m impressed by his mental capacities. When he appears at the start, it\u2019s never to just sit in the wheels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also pointed to Pogacar\u2019s appreciation for cycling\u2019s heritage and the importance of the sport\u2019s biggest races. \u201cHe has respect for the value of the great events in cycling. We must support him and encourage him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Madiot believes the debate around Pogacar and Paris-Roubaix has been shaped too much by caution rather than ambition. \u201cSometimes the media write: \u2018Why would he start in Roubaix? He must not take risks towards the Tour\u2026\u2019 No, I don\u2019t agree. Though he did not expand further, his words landed with a mix of admiration and conviction. \u201cMy favourite is Wout van Aert.
