{"id":616710,"date":"2025-12-06T21:44:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-06T21:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/616710\/"},"modified":"2025-12-06T21:44:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T21:44:13","slug":"nvidia-ceo-says-u-s-data-centers-take-3-years-but-china-can-build-a-hospital-in-a-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/616710\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia CEO says U.S. data centers take 3 years, but China &#8216;can build a hospital in a weekend&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/nvidia\/\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/nvidia\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> CEO Jensen Huang said China has an AI infrastructure advantage over the U.S., namely in construction and energy.<\/p>\n<p>While the U.S. retains an edge on AI chips, he warned China can build large projects at staggering speeds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to build a data center here in the United States from breaking ground to standing up a AI supercomputer is probably about three years,\u201d Huang <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G1ern6xmQSM\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G1ern6xmQSM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Center for Strategic and International Studies President John Hamre in late November. \u201cThey can build a hospital in a weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The speed at which China can build infrastructure is just one of his concerns. He also worries about the countries\u2019 comparative energy capacity to support the AI boom.<\/p>\n<p>China has \u201ctwice as much energy as we have as a nation, and our economy is larger than theirs. Makes no sense to me,\u201d Huang said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that China\u2019s energy capacity continues to grow \u201cstraight up\u201d, while the U.S.\u2019s remains relatively flat.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Huang maintained that Nvidia is \u201cgenerations ahead\u201d of China on AI chip technology to support the demand for the tech and semiconductor manufacturing process.<\/p>\n<p>But he warned against complacency on this front, adding that \u201canybody who thinks China can\u2019t manufacture is missing a big idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet Huang is hopeful about Nvidia\u2019s future, noting President Donald Trump\u2019s push to <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/articles\/2025\/08\/trump-effect-a-running-list-of-new-u-s-investment-in-president-trumps-second-term\/\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/articles\/2025\/08\/trump-effect-a-running-list-of-new-u-s-investment-in-president-trumps-second-term\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reshore<\/a> manufacturing jobs and <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/11\/launching-the-genesis-mission\/\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/11\/launching-the-genesis-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spur<\/a> AI investments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Insatiable AI demand\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Early last month, Huang made headlines by predicting <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/11\/11\/is-china-about-to-win-the-ai-race\/\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/11\/11\/is-china-about-to-win-the-ai-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China would win the AI race<\/a>\u2014a message he amended soon thereafter, saying the country was \u201cnanoseconds behind America\u201d in the race in a <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/x.com\/nvidianewsroom\/status\/1986221177099194484\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nvidianewsroom\/status\/1986221177099194484\">statement<\/a> shared to his company\u2019s <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/twitter\/\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/twitter\/\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a> account.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia is just one of the big tech companies pouring billions of dollars into a data center buildout in the U.S., which experts tell Fortune could amount to over $100 billion in the next year alone.<\/p>\n<p>Raul Martynek, the CEO of DataBank, a company that contracts with tech giants to construct data centers, said the average cost of a data center is $10 million to $15 million per megawatt (MW), and a typical data centers on the smaller side requires 40 MW.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the U.S., we think there will be 5 to 7 gigawatts brought online in the coming year to support this seemingly insatiable AI demand,\u201d Martynek said.<\/p>\n<p>This shakes out to $50 billion on the low
