Showers, strong winds and fresh flooding risks are on the way this weekend, but a much stronger Atlantic system early next week could bring widespread disruption. Will your region be affected?<\/p>\n

An area of low pressure remains centred to the west of the United Kingdom this afternoon, keeping conditions unsettled. A series of weak occluded fronts will continue to drift across the country, producing scattered showers. These will be most frequent across western areas<\/strong>, including Wales, northwest England, western Scotland and Northern Ireland, although the brisk westerly winds<\/strong> mean some showers will be blown further eastwards.<\/p>\n

Cloud cover will remain extensive, but brighter spells<\/strong> will break through during the afternoon, particularly across central and eastern England. Wales is expected to see the heaviest showers<\/strong>, and while most will be short-lived, some may contain downpours and gusty winds.<\/p>\n

\"SaturdaySaturday will be windy, especially across southern and southwestern coasts, where gusty conditions may approach gale force at times.<\/p>\n

It will be a breezy day<\/strong>, with the strongest gusts across southern counties<\/strong>, especially through the English Channel, southwest England and parts of south Wales, where coastal gales<\/strong> are possible. Northeast Scotland may also experience gusts up to 50 mph<\/strong> later in the day. Temperatures remain mild for early December<\/strong>, reaching 9-13\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Flood warnings remain in force<\/strong> across parts of southern England and south Wales, where saturated ground and elevated river levels leave localised flooding possible, particularly near riverbanks and low-lying routes. Large waves<\/strong> are also expected along southern coasts.<\/p>\n

A wetter, milder trend returns on Sunday<\/p>\n

Showers will continue into Saturday evening but will gradually fade, leaving most areas dry overnight. Winds will ease and clearer intervals will allow patches of mist and fog<\/strong> to form by Sunday morning. It will be another frost-free night<\/strong> with mild temperatures.<\/p>\n

Sunday begins mainly dry for many, but low pressure to the southwest will quickly reassert itself. A warm front<\/strong> will push in from the southwest during the morning, bringing heavy rain<\/strong> to southwest England, Wales and southern England. This rain will spread north and east<\/strong>, reaching England, Wales and Northern Ireland and then southern Scotland by the afternoon, where it may turn persistent<\/strong>. Brighter spells may develop across the southwest by late afternoon. Temperatures will again be mild at 8-14\u00b0C<\/strong>, driven by a moist and warm south-westerly airflow.<\/p>\n

Powerful Atlantic system set to hit: warnings expected<\/p>\n

Monday remains unsettled, with a mix of sunshine and scattered heavy showers feeding in from the west. Some of these may turn thundery with a chance of hail<\/strong>, particularly along southern and western coasts. Northern and eastern areas are likely to see the best of the bright spells, though it will stay blustery nationwide<\/strong>. Temperatures remain on the mild side, ranging from 9-14\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ByBy Tuesday, much stronger southerly winds will develop as a deep Atlantic system pushes in, with coastal and high-ground gusts strong enough to cause disruption.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to Monday night and into Tuesday, a deepening Atlantic low-pressure system<\/strong> is forecast to move in from the west, bringing heavy and persistent rain and strengthening winds<\/strong>. Met Office weather warnings<\/strong> are already in force across southwest England for heavy rain.<\/p>\n

Rain will become increasingly persistent and heavy from Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday. Although rainfall may turn more intermittent during Tuesday daytime, further heavy bursts are still expected<\/strong>. Totals will vary across the region, but 20-40mm is likely for many<\/strong>, with 60-80mm possible over high ground<\/strong> such as Dartmoor and upland areas of South Wales. There is also a small chance of 80-100mm<\/strong> over the most exposed hills.<\/p>\n

\"Tuesday\u2019sTuesday\u2019s rain will be heavy and persistent in places, with 20\u201340mm widely and 60\u201380mm over higher ground, increasing the risk of flooding.<\/p>\n

With ground conditions already saturated, this system is likely to trigger flooding in some areas<\/strong>, along with travel disruption.
