40mph speed limits will almost completely disappear in Birmingham as part of radical safety changes.<\/p>\n

Council bosses say “virtually all” main routes across the city will have maximum speed limits of 30mph.<\/p>\n

It comes as speed limits have been slashed from 40mph down to 30mph across much of Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This will take some getting used to for Brummies used to travelling around the city, particularly on wider roads which may appear more suited to a 40mph limit.<\/p>\n

Motorists will have to remember to slow down and stay within the limit.<\/p>\n

They include sections of some of the busiest roads like Hagley Road West, Chester Road and Bristol Road South.<\/p>\n

The full list of roads affected can be seen here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It’s part of a major safety drive by city council and police chiefs, which will also include new speed cameras on six routes.<\/p>\n

Cllr Majid Mahmood, from Birmingham City Council<\/a>, said: “Together we must do whatever it takes to make roads safer for everyone, which is what our Road Harm Reduction strategy sets out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are making the speed limit on virtually all roads a maximum of 30mph.<\/p>\n

“We are also working with police on red light cameras and we have just announced six new locations for average speed cameras across the city.<\/p>\n

“Working with our police partners, swift and decisive action will be taken against those who break the rules of the road. Driving is a privilege not a right.\u201d<\/p>\n
