Liverpool added \u00a3450m worth of new signings in the summer transfer window – but declined the opportunity to add a midfielder to the ranks. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sporting director Richard Hughes decided to stick with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo following their Premier League title-winning season.<\/p>\n

The load was heavy on those five last term – with Gravenberch and Mac Allister fading in the latter stages. And those two – along with Jones and Endo – have already faced some injury disruption during this campaign.<\/p>\n

The last time the Liverpool midfield had an extensive refit was back in 2023 – and it looks increasingly likely that another readjustment is coming down the line in 2026.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Atalanta midfielder Ederson back on the radar<\/p>\n

Although contracts are being discussed for Gravenberch and Szoboszlai to prolong their Anfield stays – the Premier League champions are crying out for extra options.<\/p>\n

We could see a deal for a new midfielder as soon as JANUARY – with a report<\/a> in Football Insider now suggesting that Atalanta\u2019s Ederson is being seriously considered.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was impressive over two legs against Liverpool during Atalanta\u2019s run to the UEFA Europa League title back in 2024.<\/p>\n

And owing to an uncertain contract situation for the Brazil international it has been suggested that Atalanta are ready to cash in.<\/p>\n

Liverpool are joined by Barcelona in their interest for Ederson <\/strong><\/a>– whose contract expires in 2027.<\/p>\n

With no new deal on the horizon, we could see the Serie A side settle for a deal worth around \u00a325m to \u00a330m as opposed to the much bigger sums discussed for their star midfielder a couple of summers ago.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Liverpool set their sights on Ederson deal<\/p>\n

\u201cLiverpool have set their sights on a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson as they aim to bolster their midfield in the January transfer window,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cAtalanta are reluctant to let the midfielder leave, but are bracing for offers in 2026 as a result of his contract situation, with just two years remaining on his deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiverpool have now become the latest side to show a strong interest in his availability, and could test the waters as a result of their difficult season so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

A January deal for Ederson would be an incredible boost<\/strong><\/a> for Liverpool\u2019s faltering season. The likes of Gravenberch and Mac Allister have been beneath their best all season long – with an upgrade is also due for Endo in the pecking order.<\/p>\n

An all-action midfield all-rounder, Ederson looks like exactly what the Merseysiders need.<\/p>\n
