The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2025\/12\/01\/awash-with-defense-cash-poland-rolls-out-red-carpet-for-us-tech-firms\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">growing Polish defense budget<\/a> is already fueling a shopping spree for weapons and gear, including acquisitions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2024\/08\/29\/first-f-35-for-poland-rolls-out-of-lockheeds-fort-worth-plant\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fighter jets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2022\/04\/05\/poland-signs-475-billion-abrams-tank-deal-as-russias-war-speeds-procurements\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tanks<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2024\/08\/13\/poland-buys-96-apache-helicopters-to-boost-attack-capabilities\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helicopters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2023\/02\/07\/us-clears-poland-to-buy-himars-and-ammo-worth-10-billion\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rocket launchers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2022\/05\/24\/poland-requests-six-additional-patriot-batteries-from-the-united-states\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">missiles<\/a> from the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe are modernizing our Army. We are building now the biggest EU land Army, focusing on the protection of external borders, focusing very much on securing the Baltic Sea region,\u201d Go\u0142ota said during an Dec. 5 event hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank in Washington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Money for new military acquisitions will be sourced from the country\u2019s defense budget which is to absorb additional funds of roughly \u20ac44 billion ($51 billion) in low-cost loans under the European Union\u2019s Security Action For Europe (SAFE) scheme, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2025\/09\/10\/countries-flock-to-claim-eu-defense-loans-poland-gets-lions-share\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently allocated<\/a> by Brussels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Poland\u2019s defense expenditure \u201cnext year will be 4.7% of GDP, it will be around $55 billion,\u201d the deputy minister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Go\u0142ota said the Polish government wants to involve U.S. producers in additional procurements of weapons and equipment that could be bankrolled by SAFE loans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">However, Warsaw hopes to go beyond buying off-the-shelf products. Poland is planning to use the funds to finance more joint ventures and transfers of technology from American players to the Polish defense industry with the use of European loans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe are using a lot of American equipment,\u201d according to Go\u0142ota. \u201cWe have spent over the years in signed contracts $60 billion in the U.S. \u2026 only in defense. So it\u2019s a substantial expenditure.
