A teenager has been arrested after a shot was fired in a shopping centre in the Norwegian capital of Oslo this morning. <\/p>\n
The 19-year-old man called police to say he had a gun and was inside the Storo Storsenter complex shortly before opening fire, detectives told local media.<\/p>\n
Panicked shoppers fled the scene as police surrounded the centre and helped staff evacuate. <\/p>\n
The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards while officers scoured the building for potential casualties.<\/p>\n
Around half an hour after the incident police said they had searched \u2018pretty much the entire center\u2019 and found no injured people.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Oslo police told local media said a single shot was fired in a communal area inside the centre and hit the ceiling.<\/p>\n
A shotgun and a bag of ammunition were found near the suspect, as well as a bag containing a knife and a baseball bat.<\/p>\n
Tor Grottum, operations chief with Oslo police, told Norwegian news outlet VG:\u2019 It is a very serious incident, and we should be glad that we are not facing an even more serious incident with injured people. <\/p>\n
\u2018We were very quick on the scene, and quickly got the suspect under control. <\/p>\n
\u2018That may be a contributing factor to why it went so well. There was a great potential for injury.\u2019<\/p>\n
The shopping centre has since reopened after the scene was declared safe.<\/p>\n
A large police presence including squad cars and a helicopter remained at the scene later int he morning.<\/p>\n
Authorities say the are has been secured but urged people to stay away from the centre so emergency services can work effectively.<\/p>\n
