Employers have a deadline of May 2026 to implement the Real Living Wage higher rates -under <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour Party<\/a> government legislation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">But Eland Cables, a company supplying electrical cables to major infrastructure projects, has introduced the uplift immediately, months ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">Ben, 34, a father-of-two from Doncaster, is among the staff. He said: \u201cI think it\u2019s brilliant. Everyone deserves fair pay, so I really welcome the move to reward us much earlier than next year\u2019s deadline. I know the people I work with will feel the difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/drivers-face-340-bill-even-32865762\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE Some drivers face \u00a3340 bill in &#8216;even steeper&#8217; UK pay-per-mile car tax band<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">\u201cThe extra cash will help with general living expenses, and personally, with two young kids as we approach Christmas, it\u2019s all welcome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">\u201cEverything I do is for my kids\u2019 future, but I\u2019ve also been fundraising for a local hospice in Rotherham, you\u2019ve got to remember there\u2019s always someone worse off than you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">Eland Cables\u2019 executive director, JS Pelland, says the decision to implement the new Real Living Wage early is about fairness, loyalty, and long-term success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">He told the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/our-boss-gave-early-pay-36242766\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Mirror: <\/a>\u201cWe\u2019ve always believed in a fair day\u2019s pay for a fair day\u2019s work. Our people drive quality and compliance. They\u2019re fundamental to the promises we make to customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">\u201cPaying the Real Living Wage is central to our ESG and wellbeing strategy. Doing it early is simply the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">He adds: \u201cWhen you treat people well, they stay. They\u2019re more engaged, they take pride in what they do, and that means better results for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">Mr Pelland said: \u201cWhen we became a Living Wage signatory in 2021, we made a management decision to bring all roles in-house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">\u201cEveryone is on the same package of benefits, everyone is paid the Living Wage Plus. We don\u2019t have contractors anymore, they\u2019re all part of the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"birminghammail\">Mr Pelland added: \u201cPeople are more committed. They see the bigger picture and feel part of something.
