{"id":620948,"date":"2025-12-08T22:44:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T22:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/620948\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T22:44:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T22:44:22","slug":"canadas-tallest-skyscraper-becomes-first-in-country-above-100-storeys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/620948\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada&#8217;s tallest skyscraper becomes first in country above 100 storeys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SkyTower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/supertall-skyscrapers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supertall skyscraper<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toronto<\/a>, designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/hariri-pontarini-architects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hariri Pontarini Architects<\/a>, has become the first building in Canada to surpass 100 storeys.<\/p>\n<p>The residential skyscraper for developer <a href=\"https:\/\/pinnacleinternational.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinnacle International<\/a> reached a milestone today on its path to becoming the tallest building in Canada and one of the tallest residential towers on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Canadian studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hariripontarini.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hariri Pontarini Architects<\/a>, the supertall skyscraper will reach an estimated 351.85 metres (1,154 feet) tall.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Dezeen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/05\/01\/skytower-toronto-hariri-pontarini-architects-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">showed images of the tower at 71 storeys<\/a> with some of the exterior cladding complete. Photo by Dustin William<\/p>\n<p>When completed, the building will have a slightly sloping facade with balconies on one side that resemble vents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are pleased to celebrate Pinnacle SkyTower reaching 100 storeys,&#8221; said Pinnacle International president and CEO Michael De Cotiis<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have created a landmark, one that is making history not only for Toronto, but for all of Canada.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2277867 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/skytower-100-storeys-dezeen-col-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Skytower construction\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Called Skytower, it is Canada&#8217;s tallest skyscraper. Photo courtesy of Pinnacle International<\/p>\n<p>Hariri Pontarini Architects has described Skytower as a &#8220;12-sided jewel&#8221; with &#8220;glazed and tapered form with chamfered corners&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The design of the Pinnacle Sky Tower is inspired by its urban context and by our goal of establishing a strong sculptural presence on the skyline,&#8221; said Hariri Pontarini Architects founding partner David Pontarini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Its prominent site location at the start of one of Toronto\u2019s main arterial roads called for an architectural expression that would become a landmark on the skyline.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From the outside, this geometry reflects light in different ways and results in a distinctive silhouette that shifts depending on the angle you view it from,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The building amenities on the upper floors will sit at the same general elevation as the CN Tower\u2019s main observation level, creating a visual alignment and relationship on the skyline.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/07\/11\/college-park-skyscrapers-toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/college-park-skyscrapers-restoration-toronto_dezeen_2364_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"College Park restoration and skyscrapers\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Three skyscrapers proposed on top of heritage art deco building in Toronto\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the stylistic aspects, the architecture studio claims this formal scheme will help the skyscraper bear the heavy winds that blow across Lake Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle SkyTower is part of the larger Pinnacle One development located in Toronto&#8217;s rapidly developing Harbourfront neighbourhood. It will contain apartments and a hotel as well as amenities, including a restaurant on its 106th floor, its highest.<\/p>\n<p>An adjacent skyscraper in the development will reach 95 storeys.<\/p>\n<p>After a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctbuh.org\/news\/skytower-at-pinnacle-one-yonge-may-get-taller-with-new-variance-application\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2025 variance request<\/a>, its height was extended to 106 storeys, with its original design only having 95.<\/p>\n<p>The skyscraper will beat out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/06\/26\/canadas-toronto-supertall-skyscraper-one-bloor-west\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foster + Partners One Bloor in the city<\/a>, which became Canada&#8217;s first supertall skyscraper at 85 storeys and 308.6 metres (1,012 feet) earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the developer, the tower will top out and begin welcoming residents in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The project is indicative of the rapid heightening of Toronto&#8217;s urban landscape.
