The festive season is officially underway, and the latest analysis from outdoor retailer GO Outdoors has confirmed that Scotland\u2019s capital is home to two of the UK’s most idyllic Christmas walking spots. Arthur’s Seat and Calton Hill, both offering spectacular views of Edinburgh<\/a>, have been named among the top five most Christmassy walks<\/a> in the country, outranking numerous picturesque coastal and countryside locations.<\/p>\n

The rankings, compiled by experts at GO Outdoors<\/a>, were based on a unique methodology designed to identify the locations that best capture the holiday spirit. This included analysing TripAdvisor ratings, the percentage of reviews mentioning festive keywords, the average snowfall in December (cm), and the proximity in miles to the closest cosy pub.<\/p>\n

Taking the fourth spot on the list, Arthur’s Seat scored an overall 7.94 out of 10. The ancient volcano boasts a strong TripAdvisor rating of 4.7 out of 5, indicating high visitor satisfaction year round.<\/p>\n

Crucially, for those dreaming of a white Christmas<\/a>, the landmark sees an average of 1.7cm of snowfall in December, which is one of the highest recorded figures among the top contenders.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, a well earned festive pint is never far away, with the closest pub just 0.5 miles from the walking route.<\/p>\n

Hot on its heels in fifth place, Calton Hill achieved an impressive score of 7.84. Known for its collection of neoclassical monuments, the hill provides a more accessible yet equally dramatic viewpoint.<\/p>\n

It shares the same high average December snowfall figure of 1.7cm as Arthur’s Seat, significantly contributing to its festive appeal.<\/p>\n

Adding to its charm is the even shorter distance to local hospitality, with the nearest cosy pub<\/a> only 0.2 miles away, making it perfect for a quick, warming stop.<\/p>\n

The top spot overall was claimed by Barmouth Beach in Wales, scoring 9.09, thanks to a high TripAdvisor rating (4.7) and a very short distance to the nearest pub (0.2 miles).<\/p>\n

The only other locations to beat the Edinburgh duo were Glastonbury Tor in Somerset (second place) and Bournemouth Beach in England (third place).<\/p>\n

Wolfenden stressed the importance of safety and comfort during winter expeditions, advising walkers to exercise caution: \u201cPlan your route well in advance and make sure it\u2019s suitable for everyone taking part. With the colder weather, it\u2019s best to choose paths you\u2019re confident with, as this will make it easier for you to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also provided essential advice on winter gear, stating: \u201cDressing in warm, breathable layers with an insulated coat will help you stay comfortable, and supportive footwear is essential for any slippery or uneven terrain.<\/p>\n

“If temperatures are set to drop particularly low, a hat and gloves can make a big difference to how long you\u2019re able to stay outside comfortably.\u201d<\/p>\n
