The appeal to raise \u00a31.1m to build a new MediCinema in Manchester has reached a major milestone after being supported by individuals and communities across Greater Manchester<\/a> and the north west.<\/p>\n

Manchester MediCinema appeal<\/a>, fronted by former cricketer Freddie Flintoff and backed by the likes of Coleen and Wayne Rooney<\/a>, Jennie McAlpine and Jimmy Anderson, has now reached an incredible \u00a3250,000, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of supporters.<\/p>\n

Led by Manchester Foundation Trust Charity, which raises funds for Manchester University NHS<\/a> Foundation Trust\u2019s family of ten hospitals, the appeal is raising money in a bid to build Manchester\u2019s first-ever in-hospital cinema. Delivered in partnership with charity MediCinema, the project will create a fully accessible 50-seat cinema at no cost to the NHS, bringing big-screen magic to thousands of patients at the Trust\u2019s Oxford Road<\/a> Campus, including Royal Manchester Children\u2019s Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary.<\/p>\n

The \u00a31.1m appeal will fund the build and initial running costs, providing patients with a vital therapeutic escape during long or frequent hospital stays. The MediCinema plans to transform an unused lecture theatre into a purpose-built space featuring: cinema-style seating room for wheelchairs, hospital beds, and medical equipment subtitles, audio description and sensory-friendly screenings<\/p>\n

Up to 260 films a year will be shown, supported by MediCinema nurses and trained volunteers, with capacity for personalised screenings for patients in particularly sensitive circumstances.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so grateful to everyone who has already donated. But there\u2019s still more to do, and this MediCinema will mean the world to thousands of children and adults in hospital.
