The scene at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/barton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Barton<\/a> Aerodrome this evening, April 29, was filled with emergency services, crime scene investigators, and blue lights as work to understand what happened began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Police, paramedics and firefighters rushed to the airport in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/eccles\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Eccles<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/salford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Salford<\/a> at about 5.30pm. Two men were rushed to Salford Royal Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The witness, who asked not to be named, said: \u201cThe plane taxied down the runway and upon reaching the end of the runway there was a loud pop sound and the engine cut-off after the plane had already taken off and was about two or three metres in the air.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt continued to coast at a really low altitude before the wing struck the ground on one side. It then rolled over completely upside down and the plane snapped into two pieces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThey then sounded an alarm and over the course of the next five to 10 minutes around 20 or so emergency vehicles arrived including police fire and ambulance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745993899_991_0_Barton-Aerodrome-crash.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The men&#8217;s injuries were initially described as \u2018non-life-threatening\u2019, but <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/greater-manchester-police\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Greater Manchester Police<\/a> have since revealed a harrowing picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTwo men have been taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and another with potentially life-changing injuries,\u201d said the force in a statement just before 7pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cA scene is in place whilst emergency service workers conduct their enquiries and people are asked to avoid the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_HVR_MEN_290425_barton2_02jpeg.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Blue lights remain at the aerodrome tonight(Image: Kenny Brown)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Barton Aerodrome has said that the government\u2019s Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed. A spokesperson for the airport said: \u201cToday at 5.07pm an aircraft accident occurred within the Barton Aerodrome boundary, the AAIB have been informed and are carrying out an investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOur onsite rescue and firefighting service attended the incident and have worked alongside external emergency services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Still surrounded by blue lights and emergency service vehicles, the wreckage of the aircraft could be seen as the light faded on the aerodrome field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: &#8220;At around 5.30pm today three fire engines from across Greater Manchester and the technical response unit attended an aircraft crash at Barton Aerodrome, Eccles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cFirefighters arrived quickly and assisted Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and the airport fire service in making the area safe and helping two casualties out of the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Both casualties were transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service and transferred to Salford Royal Hospital.
