A major route into Bristol city centre<\/a> will close in one direction for two nights as part of a long-running project aimed at improving the A-road.<\/p>\n The A4 Portway will close to northbound traffic<\/a> tomorrow night (Wednesday, December 10) and Thursday night (December 11).<\/p>\n The closure will begin at 9pm on both nights, and the road will reopen at 5am the following day.<\/p>\n The closure is part of the A4 Portway transport corridor project, which Bristol City Council<\/a> says will address congestion and improve the reliability of buses.<\/p>\n The closure will begin at Bennett Way and Cumberland Basin Road (also affecting Hotwell Road), and end at Hadrian Close, in Stoke Bishop.<\/p>\n Barriers on the road will be relocated to prepare for the next stage of work.<\/p>\n On Thursday night, Wessex Water will replace a damaged manhole cover located on the Portway.<\/p>\n Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the shared-use pavement throughout the closure; however, vehicles will be diverted through Sea Mills, Stoke Bishop, Clifton<\/a> and into the city centre before travelling through Hotwells<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 9, 37 and 41 bus services, travelling northbound, will also be affected by the closure and will travel a diverted route.<\/p>\n The Hotwell Road West and Merchants Road bus stops will be part-suspended for the 41 service.
