One person has died and another one is in critical condition after a shooting at a university campus. The Kentucky State University (KSU) campus, in the US city of Frankfort, was placed on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon as the incident unfolded.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The shooting happened at approximately 3.35pm local time at Young Hall, a dorm at the southern side of the campus, according to Frankfort Assistant Chief of Police Scott Tracy. A suspect was taken into custody, and there was no ongoing threat, the state governor said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Governor Andy Beshear, said shortly after reports of the incident emerged: “At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available.” In a video shared on X later on December 9, Mr Beshear said two people were critically injured, with “at least one of them” fighting for their life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It later emerged one person had died following the shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In his clip, he confirmed a suspect was in custody, before asking people to “please pray” for those injured and the students who had been scared by the incident.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The governor added:\u00a0\u201cViolence has no place in our commonwealth or country. Let’s please pray for the families affected and for our KSU students. Let\u2019s also pray for a world where these things don\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n
“Thank you to our brave law enforcement who acted quickly to protect our people.”<\/p>\n
Earlier, in a Facebook post, the law enforcement said to have “secured the campus and have a suspect in custody”.<\/p>\n
The Frankfort Police Department officers said to have responded to an incident involving “an active aggressor” on campus, alongside KSU campus police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The university is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Lexington, with the campus sprawling across 1,000 acres.\u00a0<\/p>\n
