Police have issued an update after an 81-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run incident last week. Emergency services were called to Longmoor Lane at around 4.15pm on Friday, December 5, following reports a dark-coloured vehicle had hit a pedestrian near the junction with Third Avenue in Fazakerley.<\/p>\n

Police said on Friday night<\/a> the 81-year-old woman, who lived locally, had “gone to the shops” when she was struck by the driver, who fled the scene. The woman has since been formally identified <\/a>as Margaret Perry.<\/p>\n

Margaret suffered serious injuries<\/a> and was taken to hospital <\/a>where she later died. Police<\/a> said her family is being supported by specialist officers as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

Merseyside Police<\/a> confirmed on Monday, December 8, a 69-year-old man from Fazakerley<\/a> had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop and was taken to police custody.<\/p>\n

In an update issued today, Tuesday, December 9, the force confirmed the suspect has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n

Heartfelt tributes have been shared online in the days since Margaret’s death. Responding to the ECHO’s Facebook<\/a> post, Laura Mc said: “Rest in peace beautiful lady. I hope your family can grieve in peace now.”<\/p>\n

Teresa Walker said: “God bless her and please send love and strength to all her family.” Belle Jones wrote: “Thinking of her family at this sad time.”<\/p>\n

Christine Doyle: “So shocked to hear it was you Marg, rest in eternal peace. Deepest condolences to Frank and all the family.” Gerry Collins said: “God bless all the family at this sad time. Rest in peace lovely lady.”<\/p>\n

Lorraine Burns: “Heartfelt condolences to the family, so sad.” David Murphy: “RIP beautiful lady. My thoughts and prayers to family.”<\/p>\n

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Saidi<\/a> has urged anyone who saw what happened or has footage of the incident to come forward.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cOur thoughts remain with Margaret’s family as they continue to grieve this tragic loss. Although someone has now been arrested, we continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ask motorists who were in the area at around 4.15pm on Friday or immediately after the collision to please check your dashcam footage (front and rear) for any vital evidence which may help with our enquiries.<\/p>\n

“Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem may help.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur priority is to ensure that we get answers for Margaret’s family. Any information, however insignificant it may seem, would be greatly appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n
