Filming recently wrapped on the upcoming Friday the 13th<\/strong> prequel television series \u201cCrystal Lake<\/strong>\u201d from A24, which will be the franchise\u2019s first official installment in almost twenty years when it premieres on Peacock sometime next year. And we\u2019re in good hands with this one, as showrunner Brad Caleb Kane <\/strong>is also the co-showrunner of HBO\u2019s \u201cIT: Welcome to Derry.\u201d<\/p>\n

What can we expect from \u201cCrystal Lake\u201d? Brad Caleb Kane tells Entertainment Weekly<\/a> in a brand new interview, \u201cIn many ways, it\u2019s a psychological thriller. It\u2019s a paranoid \u201970s thriller<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continues, \u201cIt has all of the DNA of a slasher without quite being a slasher. There are rivers of blood in the show<\/strong>. There are very, I think, ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it\u2019s all done in service of character and theme and place and time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to think about Crystal Lake and a Friday the 13th prequel as, \u2018What era did the first movie come out of?\u2019 It came out of the paranoid \u201970s thriller era,\u201d Caleb Kane goes on to explain. \u201cIt came out of the mistrust-of-institutions era. It came out of the women\u2019s lib era, the National Organization for Women era, this consciousness-raising awakening era in America. I wanted to go and play with all of those themes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brad Caleb Kane also teases that star Linda Cardellini<\/strong>, who plays Jason\u2019s mother Pamela Voorhees in the series, is going to \u201cshock and surprise a lot of people\u201d with her performance.<\/p>\n

He explains in his chat with EW, \u201cI think [Linda Cardellini\u2019s] gonna get a lot of attention for this role. She\u2019s inconceivably brilliant in it<\/strong>. I can\u2019t really say any more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Callum Vinson<\/strong>\u00a0is playing a young Jason Voorhees in the series, with\u00a0Linda Cardellini\u00a0starring as Mrs. Voorhees. The series will serve as an expanded prequel to the 1980 slasher.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrystal Lake\u201d also stars\u00a0William Catlett<\/strong>\u00a0(A Thousand and One, Constellation),\u00a0Devin Kessler<\/strong>\u00a0(Godfather of Harlem),\u00a0Cameron Scoggins\u00a0<\/strong>(Shades of Blue, Nashville) and\u00a0Gwendolyn Sundstrom<\/strong>.\u00a0Nick Cordileone<\/strong>\u00a0is Crazy Ralph,\u00a0Danielle Kotch<\/strong>\u00a0is Claudette, and\u00a0Phoenix Parnevik<\/strong>\u00a0is Barry, all characters from the original\u00a0Friday the 13th\u00a0movie.<\/p>\n

Nancy Nagrant<\/strong>\u00a0will play Kay Christy, a relative of Steve Christy from\u00a0Friday the 13th\u00a0(1980), while\u00a0Joy Suprano\u00a0<\/strong>(Fleishman is in Trouble, Best Foot Forward) will also star.<\/p>\n

The eight-episode series is set to be directed by\u00a0Michael Lennox<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cDerry Girls\u201d),\u00a0Celine Held<\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0Logan George<\/strong>\u00a0(Caddo Lake), and\u00a0Quyen Tran<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cThe Pitt\u201d).<\/p>\n
