{"id":624016,"date":"2025-12-10T10:33:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T10:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/624016\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T10:33:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T10:33:21","slug":"meghan-makes-contact-with-father-thomas-markle-after-his-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/624016\/","title":{"rendered":"Meghan makes contact with father Thomas Markle after his surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The Duchess of Sussex has made contact with her estranged father in hospital in the Philippines, a week after he had surgery to amputate his leg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Thomas Markle, 81, begged his daughter to see him \u201cone more time before I die\u201d, saying she had not called him after his life-saving operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">On Wednesday morning, the Duchess of Sussex\u2019s team confirmed that a letter, written from her home in California, had been delivered to her father who is staying at a hospital on the island of Cebu<b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">It is understood she was unwilling to speak to her father for fear the conversation would be overheard or relayed to the tabloids, after he gave a damaging interview to a journalist, whom he counts as a friend, about his daughter last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u201cGiven that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father\u2019s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days,\u201d a spokesman said. \u201cWith the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Her team cited the difficulties posed by time zones and logistics for the delay in sending the note. It is understood Meghan, 44, is hopeful the note will remain private.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The situation echoes her letter to her father in the weeks after her wedding, large parts of which were published by The Mail on Sunday in 2018. She had, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/royal-family\/article\/familyarticlethomas-markle-die-eestranged-meghan-hospital-3mkktjjhl-f53005p7q\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">either lost or deleted her father\u2019s number<\/a> during their years of estrangement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Her father <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/royal-family\/article\/thomas-markle-father-fighting-life-surgery-meghan-k686qfbwb?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqfEdDQcsObUFcn0E2VZvnAA5dRwO7nbYLIO6JLSIkf2F72dItgoQZHHGkUQl3I%3D&amp;gaa_ts=69394868&amp;gaa_sig=YJQ_P9ENJBReGc324Uu8d2fqqkdOZU0K26GRR9HK_h2FFJAkcTAptVS44tYxBVrI1bkKUVuHF3Q8bdgyEMBm6w%3D%3D\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">underwent emergency surgery last Wednesday<\/a> after a 14-inch blood clot in his left thigh caused his foot to go black and blue, and swell to twice its normal size. Relations became strained after it emerged that he had staged pictures with a paparazzi photographer. In his absence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/topic\/king-charles-iii\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles<\/a>, then Prince of Wales, gave Meghan away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Their relations then deteriorated further after her 1,250-word letter was leaked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">This year Markle moved from his home in Mexico to the Philippines.
