{"id":625434,"date":"2025-12-11T03:13:28","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T03:13:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/625434\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T03:13:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T03:13:28","slug":"edinburgh-records-hottest-december-day-in-almost-80-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/625434\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh records hottest December day in almost 80 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EDINBURGH saw its hottest December day on record on Tuesday (DEC 3), breaking an almost 80-year-old record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office confirmed that\u00a0Gogarbank\u00a0weather station recorded 16.6C, beating its previous December record of 15C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson said: \u201cThe previous December record for Edinburgh was at the Botanic Gardens with 16.C in 1948.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The overall record for Scotland\u2019s hottest day was set in July 2022 when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cdxlk9pgk0vo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">34.8C was reached in the Scottish Borders<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new weather record will undoubtedly raise concerns over the impact of climate change.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2048px-Princes_Street_Gardens_02.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-dominant-color=\"5f7a7f\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #5f7a7f;\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"big city gardens\" class=\"wp-image-1252679 not-transparent\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2048px-Princes_Street_Gardens_02.jpg\"\/><\/a>Scotland has seen extreme weather changes the last few months.<\/p>\n<p>The last few weeks has seen a spate of extreme weather hit the capital, as a cold snap saw temperatures fall below freezing, and was followed by a temporary soaring of temperatures a couple of days later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This week has been marked by another extreme twist, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/2025\/12\/09\/flood-alerts-issued-in-edinburgh-as-storm-bram-sweeps-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Storm Bram<\/a> making landfall and sweeping through Scotland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An amber warning for the north-west was in place until early Wednesday (DEC 10) morning. A yellow warning\u00a0remains\u00a0in place in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Strong winds\u00a0saw flights at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/2025\/12\/10\/edinburgh-airport-hotel-to-be-expanded-adding-76-new-rooms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh and Glasgow airports<\/a> diverted, while some train and ferry services were cancelled on Tuesday (DEC 9).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Violent gusts toppled HGVs on the M74, leading to the road being shut between junctions 12 and 13 near Abington in South Lanarkshire for much of Tuesday night.
