{"id":62547,"date":"2025-04-30T09:22:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T09:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/62547\/"},"modified":"2025-04-30T09:22:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T09:22:13","slug":"mum-left-humiliated-by-bristol-airport-easyjet-crew-trying-to-charge-her-for-breast-milk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/62547\/","title":{"rendered":"Mum left \u2018humiliated\u2019 by Bristol Airport easyJet crew trying to charge her for breast milk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daisy Crawford was travelling from Bristol to Belfast<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1_Breast-milk.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Daisy Crawford<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A breastfeeding mum has hit out at easyJet after what she described as a &#8220;humiliating&#8221; ordeal when she was told she would be charged extra for bringing breast milk and pumping equipment onboard her flight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Daisy Crawford said the easyJet staff at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-airport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol Airport<\/a> were &#8220;stony faced&#8221; and showed &#8220;no understanding&#8221; of how upsetting the security process was.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Sunday, April 27, Ms Crawford flew from Bristol to Belfast after visiting friends and family in Devon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Despite making it through security at the airport with no issues, at the gate she was told that as she was carrying pumped breast milk, she would have to pay a \u00a350 fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She claimed the staff &#8220;made no attempt&#8221; to understand her situation, saying she may have had a premature baby, meaning the pumped breast milk would be<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cuh.nhs.uk\/patient-information\/breast-milk-and-your-premature-baby\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> critical for its health.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ms Crawford, who lives in Belfast, told Bristol Live staff at the gate told her she had &#8220;no choice&#8221; to pay, unless she could fit all the breastmilk and pump into her one cabin bag.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Sign up to receive daily news updates and breaking news alerts straight to your inbox for free <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3r1T6AI\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Desperate, the 40-year-old mum of three, attempted to find the information she had read online about flying with breastmilk, but didn\u2019t have any signal and said she was told by staff &#8220;we\u2019ve given you time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ms Crawford added: &#8220;The staff were very stony faced and said we\u2019re just doing our job and we\u2019re people too. We\u2019re not trying to upset you.&#8221; The mum-of-three replied: &#8220;Well this is very upsetting for me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">At this point the mum-of-three said she had had enough and started unpacking the clothes she had in her bag in order to fit the milk and pump in. &#8220;I felt adamant that I wasn&#8217;t going to pay,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_6458253a-6d97-4db4-964a-ce08cdb7f3e2.jpg\" alt=\"Daisy is a stay at home mum with her 6-year-old, 4-year-old and 15-month-old baby \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Daisy is a stay at home mum with her 6-year-old, 4-year-old and 15-month-old baby (Image: provided)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The shuttle bus was full of everybody waiting so they were saying you&#8217;re going to miss your flight. They then threatened to fly without me,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cEventually I wore a jumper, jacket and coat and put my flip flops in my pockets, so that I could fit the cool bag in my bag. At this point I was absolutely furious, upset and humiliated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;I did loads of research beforehand and it says everywhere that you are free to travel with as much milk as you need and it wasn\u2019t a problem on the way out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWhy should I have to use space in an already small baggage allowance to carry equipment that is essential to me as a breastfeeding mother? It\u2019s medically necessary, and I don\u2019t think someone with other medical equipment would be expected to fit it in their hand luggage or be charged extra.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThat means I\u2019m being treated differently, and that travelling potentially costs more for me because I\u2019m breastfeeding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/hand-luggage-restrictions\/baby-food-and-baby-milk\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> government website states<\/a> that: &#8220;You can carry breast milk in hand luggage even if you\u2019re not travelling with a baby.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It also says you can travel with unlimited amounts of breast milk provided that &#8220;individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Each container will need to be screened at the security point. Airport staff might need to open the containers to screen the liquids.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">An easyJet spokesperson said: &#8220;We are very sorry for Ms Crawford\u2019s experience while boarding her flight as this is not the level of service we expect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe advise customers to carry baby milk in their cabin baggage and do allow customers an additional free of charge bag for a breast pump and milk.
