Many nations view his rule as illegitimate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Last month, Venezuela&#8217;s attorney general said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c33mnvy5zppo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Machado would be considered a fugitive if she travelled to Norway<\/a> to collect her prize, saying she was accused of &#8220;acts of conspiracy, incitement of hatred, and terrorism&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The details of her journey from Venezuela to Norway were kept so tightly under wraps, that even the Nobel Institute did not know where she was or whether she would be in Oslo in time to collect her award at the prize ceremony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel committee, had described her journey as &#8220;a situation of extreme danger&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sitting next to her during the BBC interview, Frydnes said it was an &#8220;emotional&#8221; moment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"> &#8220;In the middle of the night to have you here, it&#8217;s incredible,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s hard to describe what it means to the Nobel committee and to all of us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/americas\/disguised-and-in-danger-how-a-nobel-peace-prize-winner-escaped-venezuela-8146dc9d?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqdBKK949YHntGZFyH3qNdpF-N5mlbRPG1baZMp2LHkSAY9scbVsnfr9oOW2jdY%3D&amp;gaa_ts=693a38be&amp;gaa_sig=42bN-qmh6kWGTn3EpA-VuU0iT7A0MG68clDP8ba94oYXKwXx39nITXX2C21tGkPAiRj7rY_la5nbTZGQ4ogJWQ%3D%3D\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal, external<\/a> reports that to escape Venezuela, Machado wore a disguise, managed to get through 10 military checkpoints without being caught, and left on a wooden fishing skiff at a coastal fishing village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The plan was two months in the making, it reports, citing a person close to the operation, and she was assisted by a Venezuelan network that helps people flee the country.
