Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> will not extend Ethan Horvath\u2019s loan beyond January as the \u2018keeper eyes a return to the United States, as per SBI Soccer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> are in an uncertain position heading into January. While there is still hope a takeover<\/a> can be ratified in early 2026, SWFC are unsure of what sort of business they can do in the transfer window<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They are certain to be limited to loans and free agents, as they have been so far this season. The hope is that the Owls can make a few more additions than they have to date as Henrik Pedersen deals with a threadbare squad.<\/p>\n

One loan man whose deal expires at the end of 2025 is Ethan Horvath<\/a>. The American was brought in from Cardiff City<\/a> as cover after Pierce Charles\u2019 injury, but with the young shot-stopper back, Horvath is set to head elsewhere.<\/p>\n

American news outlet SBI Soccer<\/a> reports that Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have already decided Horvath\u2019s loan will not be extended. He is then setting his sights on a permanent move from Cardiff City<\/a>, with the MLS his desired destination.<\/p>\n

Horvath has been a well-travelled player over the course of his career. Initially starting out in the States with Real Colorado, he headed to Norway with Molde then spent time in Belgium with Club Brugge.<\/p>\n

Nottingham Forest brought him to England in 2021. He would win promotion to the Premier League on loan at Luton Town<\/a> in the 2022\/23 season before signing for Cardiff City<\/a> permanently in the winter of 2024.<\/p>\n

His loan to Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> over the first half of this campaign looks to be the final foray in English football. Horvath has had a tough job in behind a leaky backline, and he will now serve as second choice to Charles for the rest of the loan.<\/p>\n

After his time in England and on the continent, it seems a good time for Horvath to return to America. He can land a new club for their 2026 campaign and, now 30, potentially see out his career there.<\/p>\n

With Horvath\u2019s loan not to be extended, Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> will expect that to open the door for at least one new player to come through the doors.<\/p>\n

It might be hoped that they can do so without a long wait for EFL approval too, considering it would be one in and one out. Additions beyond a first new loan ace are likely to take longer.<\/p>\n

Pedersen and co will have already carefully weighed up the areas of the SWFC squad that need bolstering the most.
