Salford\u2019s high streets and public spaces are set for a major boost with the council getting its hands on \u00a31.5m of funding. The city will be getting payments of \u00a3750,000 per year over two years from the government, to be used for creating or refurbishing community areas, boosting parks and outdoor facilities, and for shops and town centres.<\/p>\n
It has to be committed for use by the end of March 2027 and what the cash will be used for is to be decided through talks with MPs and \u2018local stakeholders\u2019 in Salford<\/a>.<\/p>\n During a cabinet meeting on December 9, the council welcomed the extra cash and agreed to move ahead with discussions over how the money can be put to use.<\/p>\n Salford Mayor Paul Dennett said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be receiving \u00a31.5m from the Labour<\/a> government to distribute across priority projects in the city of Salford, this is really good news. I\u2019ve always said to colleagues that we should be looking outside of the things we can immediately influence within the city council, be that our revenue budget or our capital budget, to try and think more intelligently about how we use some of that to lever in investment into the city of Salford.<\/p>\n \u201cBut this is a new one for me, this is central government just deciding we\u2019re getting \u00a31.5m so all in all great news for Salford.\u201d<\/p>\n Areas of Salford are also set to benefit from the separate Pride in Place funding<\/a> with \u00a320m earmarked for Pendleton and Peel Green. Residents in Peel Green said the cash should be spent on creating new community facilities.
