And you’ve lost the game.”

Jim White interjected, saying: “But it’s game one! He’s just arrived!”

Jordan said: “I know, it’s unfortunate, isn’t it. But first impressions are the ones that last the longest. Make the right one.

“Don’t give people an opportunity to parody what you’re doing. I know I’m always in the camp of saying to somebody, ‘give people an opportunity’…

“But when you walk into a situation like Celtic, one of these unique jobs – there aren’t many of them about – the focus is instantaneously upon you.

“It’s wonderful that Nigel Reo-Coker talks about him, but with all due respect, I don’t think people are listening to Nigel Reo-Coker when it comes to the appointment of a manager.

“I don’t think the MLS is a blueprint for how you manage European sides. But hey, I’m happy to be proven wrong.

“The reason why I’m saying it is that the first impression is important. Because us b—–s in the media, and I include myself in that, we will judge you, forever and a day, on that impression. You’ll never get away from it.

“So win a game. Don’t change too much. Be sensible, get the outcome, move on.”

White said: “I think it’s so picky. Russell Martin was criticised in some quarters for opting not to wear a suit. The players should know what they’re capable of doing, the manager should set them up at the beginning of the game…

“You shouldn’t need a bleeding tactics board on the site of a pitch, going through it. It’s ridiculous.”

White finally said: “But there’d have been no uproar about that if they’d won the match.”

Are the ‘optics’ of Celtic’s new manager being overblown?

👇 Join the debate; share your insight.
