{"id":627010,"date":"2025-12-11T21:04:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T21:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/627010\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T21:04:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T21:04:30","slug":"inside-old-police-station-where-cells-will-be-turned-into-homes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/627010\/","title":{"rendered":"Inside old police station where cells will be turned into homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Incredible behind the scenes photographs of a former police station and law courts where a new housing scheme is planned<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Photographs-of-a-former-police-station-and-law-courts-in-Prescot.jpg\" alt=\"Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot(Image: Prima Group)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A derelict former Merseyside Police station and law courts is to be transformed into new homes, which will include original features such as cells and a courtroom. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/prescot\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Prescot<\/a> Police station was bought by Prima Group in 2019, which plans to create a range of new affordable housing units.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The police station first opened in 1870, and was one of the country\u2019s first purpose-built <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/merseyside-police\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">police<\/a> stations. Prima Group said the new <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/prescot\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">development<\/a> will retain a most of the original architectural and operational features, as it develops a range of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/housing\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">housing<\/a> types including apartments, bungalows and new houses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Details of the project have been published on Prima Group\u2019s website and states: \u201cThe main building with Gothic features, special brick detailing and carved stonework will be converted into seven apartments, keeping the Victorian period\u2019s high vaulted ceilings and large glass brick windows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe cells and former judge\u2019s changing quarters will be opened up to provide kitchen, dining and living spaces in one of the ground-floor apartments, while the shape of the courtroom roof will be retained to form upper-floor duplexes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1765487040_912_0_Photographs-of-a-former-police-station-and-law-courts-in-Prescot.jpg\" alt=\"Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot(Image: Prima Group)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cA staircase that led prisoners from cells to the courtroom will form a feature of the communal area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Externally, all sandstone brickwork will be cleaned, and parts of the main fa\u00e7ade will be repointed with lime mortar to further help return the station to its original appearance. Outbuildings that were previously stables and used for storage have been retained and will be redeveloped into two bungalows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The project is part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority\u2019s (LCRCA) \u00a360m Brownfield Land Fund, which plans to create more than 4,500 new homes on derelict sites across the region.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1765487049_63_0_Photographs-of-a-former-police-station-and-law-courts-in-Prescot.jpg\" alt=\"Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Photographs of a former police station and law courts in Prescot(Image: Prima Group)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At a LCRCA meeting tomorrow (December 12), elected members will be presented with the Strategic Investment Fund Quarterly Report, and asked to approve the funding of several new projects, including a \u00a3325,000 grant for the police station site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The five developments proposed for inclusion in the Combined authority\u2019s project pipeline are Sentinel Way in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/aintree\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Aintree<\/a>, Mather Avenue in Liverpool, St. Monica\u2019s Church, Stewart Avenue in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/bootle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Bootle<\/a>, Stork Inn, Billinge, and Prescot Police Station.
