Thomas Craig, 48, from Walton Street in East Renfrewshire, was found guilty of attempted murder and serious assault at Glasgow High Court<\/a> following a four-day trial on November 28. He will be sentenced on January 12 next year.<\/p>\n The court heard how the thug caused absolute panic when the incident unfolded on February 16, 2024, after Craig struck up a conversation with two passengers sitting across the aisle from him on a Glasgow Queen Street<\/a> to Perth service.<\/p>\n Within minutes, Craig turned on one of the men, hurling an insult before leaping from his seat and smashing a glass bottle over the victim\u2019s head twice, as seen on CCTV.<\/a> The terrified man tried to flee through the carriage, but Craig chased him, repeatedly battering him until the bottle shattered in his hand \u2014 leaving him armed with the jagged neck.<\/p>\n When the victim\u2019s friend stepped in, Craig turned on him too, punching him seven times and plunging the sharp bottle neck into his chest twice.<\/p>\n He then calmly returned to his seat, threw the broken bottle neck towards the men, stole a mobile phone belonging to one of them, and changed out of his blood-soaked jumper.<\/p>\n Police and paramedics met the train at Larbert station.<\/a> Both victims were rushed to hospital, with the second man suffering life-threatening injuries including a stab wound close to his heart, a collapsed lung and a severed artery that caused him to lose 15% of his blood. He was placed in intensive care.<\/p>\n Craig was arrested onboard.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Marc Francey of British Transport Police said: “Craig acted in a truly despicable manner, violently and relentlessly attacking two men over a minor disagreement and causing countless passengers on the train to panic.<\/p>\n \u201cHis indiscriminate and thuggish actions could have resulted in far more severe consequences, both for his victims and for himself. It is thanks only to luck and to the lifesaving work of the paramedics that Craig hasn\u2019t been found guilty of something far worse.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope this verdict brings a measure of closure to the victims after enduring such a brutal attack.
