{"id":627452,"date":"2025-12-12T02:22:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T02:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/627452\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T02:22:44","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T02:22:44","slug":"lecce-president-expresses-pride-at-patrick-dorgus-transfer-to-manchester-united","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/627452\/","title":{"rendered":"Lecce president\u00a0expresses \u2018pride\u2019 at\u00a0Patrick Dorgu\u2019s transfer to Manchester United"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>President of Lecce, Saverio Sticchi Damiani, has expressed deep satisfaction and pride towards a transfer that led to Patrick Dorgu joining Manchester United in 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is still debate surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester United\u2019s<\/a> options at wing-back.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first decisions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/ruben-amorim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruben Amorim<\/a> made after becoming United\u2019s head coach was signing a left wing-back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/patrick-dorgu-explains-ambition-after-manchester-united-move-plus-reason-behind-no-13-shirt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce<\/a> in a deal worth \u00a325.2 million plus \u00a34.2 million in add-ons. The 21-year-old made 12 appearances in the Premier League ahead of the 2025\/26 campaign, but he remains a work in progress for the future due to his young age and promise.<\/p>\n<p>Amorim appears set on his preferred duo for the wing-back roles, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/amad-diallo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amad Diallo<\/a> operating on the right flank and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/diogo-dalot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diogo Dalot<\/a> shoehorned in on the left side.<\/p>\n<p>It remains an area that needs to improve if United are to challenge for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/premier-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> titles in the future.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-2250168586-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Patrick Dorgu and Senne Lammens\" class=\"wp-image-315712\" \/>Photo by Ash Donelon\/Manchester United via Getty ImagesSticchi Damiani proud of Patrick Dorgu transfer<\/p>\n<p>Dorgu arrived at United almost a year ago, but he already has 35 appearances for the club under his belt.<\/p>\n<p>The jury is still out over whether the Denmark international will become a star at left wing-back for United, but Amorim has used him as a substitute in games he hasn\u2019t started.<\/p>\n<p>That said, Dorgu has started seven league games this season, which suggests he is an important part of the coach\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n<p>However, before Dorgu signed for United, the young defender emerged at Serie A outfit Lecce and became a regular in the team at a young age.<\/p>\n<p>In a new interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuttomercatoweb.com\/serie-a\/sticchi-damiani-puntato-forte-su-camarda-strefezza-e-baschirotto-le-cessioni-piu-dolorose-2177452\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tuttomercatoweb<\/a>, Lecce president Sticchi Damiani explains how Dorgu\u2019s transfer epitomises the model he has built at the Italian club.<\/p>\n<p>Damiani spoke about two deals that he is proud of playing a role in at Lecce, including Dorgu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Samuel] Umtiti was an extraordinary operation, a world champion who gave a lot to our club, but that of Dorgu represents the Lecce model 360,\u201d Damiani explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaken from the youth sector of a Danish team, he spent a year in the Primavera and half a season in Serie A, and then was sold to Manchester United for \u20ac38 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a symbol of the quality of our club. Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>Amorim claimed he could sense nervousness from the wing-back and urged him to try to play more calmly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe needs to be calmer playing the game,\u201d Amorim said, as quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/story\/_\/id\/47141424\/man-united-ruben-amorim-patrick-dorgu-pressure\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball.
