One of my fondest memories of the festive period growing up was going to watch the Chuckle Brothers perform at the pantomime in my hometown, Darlington. A panto is the one thing that really gets me in the mood for Christmas, I see it as the start of festivities – so, going to the panto every December is a tradition I’ve carried on ever since.<\/p>\n
And, after complaining I’d been lacking that spirit I really hoped the Epstein Theatre’s Cinderella pantomime, starring Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn as Cinderella, was going to kickstart it for me – and was I right.<\/p>\n
Presented by Regan Entertainments the Epstein’s Christmas pantomime told the story of Cinderella in a hilarious manner, with Liverpool-related puns about living in and around the city.<\/p>\n
The story begins with a young girl who is mistreated by her wicked stepsisters and finds solace in her best friend Buttons. Her kindness wins her the help from a fair godmother who magics up a pumpkin to turn into a carriage to take her to the Prince’s ball, who she’d secretly met in the woods.<\/p>\n
Her rags turn to a beautiful glittery ball gown and her glass slippers are ready to “set destiny into motion” – just in time for the curtain to go down.<\/p>\n
The second part. The infamous royal ball. Where the prince and Cinders fall madly in love – and well, you know the rest – live happily ever after.<\/p>\n
Honestly, my cheeks hurt from laughing so much. They genuinely ached during the bus journey home to Aigburth<\/a>, the performers were hilarious and a special mention to the gorgeous ugly step-sisters whose acting and outfit changes had me in fits of laughter, even Button’s ‘dad jokes’ had me crying.<\/p>\n The producers and creative team had brilliantly incorporated dozens of Scouse puns discreetly into the play. From Bethany from Bootle<\/a> to gags about the Wirra<\/a>l.<\/p>\n Oh, and the Scouse phrases, they were done so well.
