{"id":629171,"date":"2025-12-12T23:54:26","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/629171\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T23:54:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:54:26","slug":"met-announces-extra-policing-for-unite-the-kingdom-protest-in-london-on-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/629171\/","title":{"rendered":"Met announces extra policing for &#8216;Unite the Kingdom&#8217; protest in London on Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Metropolitan Police has announced an increased police presence in central London tomorrow ahead of the Unite the Kingdom protest and Stand Up to Racism counter-protest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/most-shocking-moments-tommy-robinsons-180932404.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u201cUnite the Kingdom\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cUnite the Kingdom\u201d <\/a>protest is set to begin in the north end of Whitehall from 3pm, and the Stand Up To Racism counter-protest will begin at the south end from 1pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A march protesting digital ID will also begin at 2pm from Portland Place towards the north end of Whitehall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It comes after the previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/crime\/tell-mama-unite-muslim-government-london-b1250801.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u201cUnite the Kingdom\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">\u201cUnite the Kingdom\u201d <\/a>protest, led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/the-met\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Met;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">The Met<\/a> said demonstrators at that protest tried to spill into cordoned-off areas and officers policing who moved into stop them were met with \u201cunacceptable violence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"More than 100,000 people attended the Unite the Kingdom protest which descended into chaos (PA Wire)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/8865e7b5d5966e5b7c70669602b05910.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>More than 100,000 people attended the Unite the Kingdom protest which descended into chaos (PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThey were assaulted with kicks and punches. Bottles, flares, and other projectiles were thrown,\u201d the force said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officers have been focusing on keeping the protests safe for Stand Up to Racism counter-protesters and said that officers faced \u201caggression in multiple locations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After the protest, shocking footage of violence and unrest<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/london\/london-protests-live-tommy-robinson-march-latest-counter-b1247487.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:flooded social media.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> flooded social media. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ahead of Saturday\u2019s protest, Commander Adam Slonecki, who is head of the policing operation, said: \u201cEvery weekend in London is busy, but that is especially the case at this time of year when the transport network, shops and public spaces will see much higher footfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIn that context, it is particularly important that we ensure that where groups are exercising their lawful right to protest, we use the powers available to us to ensure those protests don\u2019t cause serious disruption to the many other people \u2013 Londoners and visitors alike \u2013 going about their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">To mitigate disruption, the force has put a number of regulations in place, including requiring protesters to keep to their designated routes and cordoned areas.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"The Met has shared this map of Whitehall indicating where each protest should take place (Handout - The Metropolitan Police)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"367\" height=\"608\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/cf2389a5c0dd93cd5969a3daa5e9e03d.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Met has shared this map of Whitehall indicating where each protest should take place (Handout &#8211; The Metropolitan Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Commander Slonecki said: \u201cWe have imposed a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/mark-rowley-police-chris-kaba-metropolitan-police-government-b1254550.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Public Order Act;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Public Order Act <\/a>conditions setting out limits on locations and timings of the protests.
