{"id":629985,"date":"2025-12-13T10:32:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T10:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/629985\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T10:32:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T10:32:24","slug":"east-edinburgh-communities-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/629985\/","title":{"rendered":"East Edinburgh communities \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><strong>\u00a320 MILLION PRIDE IN COMMUNITIES CASH FOR NIDDRIE, BINGHAM, MAGDALENE &amp; THE CHRISTIANS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/PRIDE-IN-PLACE-programme.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"825\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/PRIDE-IN-PLACE-programme.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219468\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Local communities are at the heart of Scottish life \u2013 and the UK Government is today announcing the 14 neighbourhoods each receiving up to \u00a320 million to restore pride in their area and open doors to new opportunities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In September the UK Government\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/292m-pride-in-place-investment-for-scottish-neighbourhoods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0that the Pride in Place Programme will see up to \u00a3280 million shared among 14 neighbourhoods in 12 Scottish local authorities over 10 years to precisely target areas which can benefit most from a wide range of regeneration projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The local authorities selected have both the highest deprivation levels and weakest social infrastructure. The Scotland Office invited evidence submissions from these local authorities, eligible MPs and constituency MSPs, the Scottish Government and wider community organisations as to which neighbourhoods should be chosen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">We have now worked at pace and on the basis of strong stakeholder evidence have selected the neighbourhoods to receive the funding (see list below).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/douglas-alexander-scottish-secretary-1-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"825\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/douglas-alexander-scottish-secretary-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212752\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander said: \u201cThe UK Government is backing\u00a014 of Scotland\u2019s most in need communities with \u00a3280 million investment \u2013 part of a \u00a32 billion package to uphold pride in communities and create opportunities the length and breadth of the nation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cOver decades of decline, people have watched as their neighbourhoods have lost services and support, so now we are putting the power into the hands of local people who can decide how the money is spent. We\u2019re investing directly in Scottish communities to build stronger, thriving neighbourhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/steve-reed.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"465\" height=\"310\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/steve-reed.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-215041\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed said: People across Scotland have been shut out from their own futures and felt powerless to make the changes they want to see in their communities. Pride in Place is fixing that and putting power back where it belongs \u2013 in the hands of the people who have the knowledge, ambition and vision to make a real difference.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re backing 14 neighbourhoods across Scotland with up to \u00a320 million each, to put local people back in the driving seat to revitalise their communities and shape their futures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Neighbourhood Boards, comprising representatives from the local community, will decide exactly what the investment will be spent on. These will now be established, with funding starting from April 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Projects could include revitalising high streets and town centres, preserving local heritage, providing housing, creating jobs, boosting productivity and skills, improving health and well-being, creating new transport links, providing education and opportunity and improving safety and security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Neighbourhood allocations\u00a0\u2013 maps:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/we.tl\/t-kRQF2DPUrp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/we.tl\/t-kRQF2DPUrp<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Pride in Place: Up to \u00a320m each (\u00a3280m total)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Aberdeen City \u2013\u00a0 North Locality Priority Neighbourhood \/ Cummings Park, Heathryfold and Middlefield, Northfield, Mastrick<\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><strong>City of Edinburgh \u2013\u00a0 Bingham, Magdalene, The Christians and Niddrie<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Falkirk \u2013 The Forgotten Villages, Braes Villages and Hallglen<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Fife x2 \u2013 1) West Fife Villages \/ Oakley Comrie and Blairhall, Valleyfield Culross and Torryburn, Kincardine, Saline and Gowkhall; and 2) Methil and Buckhaven<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Glasgow x2 \u2013 1)\u00a0 Springburn and Sighthill; and 2) Castlemilk<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Highland \u2013\u00a0 North, West and East Sutherland<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">North Ayrshire \u2013 Three Towns (Ardrossan, Saltcoats, and Stevenston)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">North Lanarkshire \u2013\u00a0 Forgewood, North Motherwell and town centre<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">South Ayrshire \u2013\u00a0 Northern Ayr and Town Centre Regeneration Corridor<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">South Lanarkshire \u2013\u00a0 Hamilton Town Centre\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Na h-Eileanan Siar \u2013 Stornoway and Lewis<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">West Lothian \u2013\u00a0 Fauldhouse, Whitburn and Blackburn\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>In total, the UK Government is investing more than \u00a32 billion over 10 years in dozens of important local and regional projects the length and breadth of Scotland, bringing much-needed economic and community renewal. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">These include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">\u00a3280m Pride in Place Programme (Phase 2)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a312m Pride in Place Impact Fund<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a3200m support for ten Scottish towns (Pride in Place Phase 1)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a3320m for the Glasgow City Region and North East Scotland Investment Zones<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a352m for the Inverness and Cromarty Firth, and Forth Green Freeports<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a381m for Community Regeneration Partnerships in Dundee, Scottish Borders, Argyll &amp; Bute, and Na h-Eileanan Siar<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a3188m to complete Levelling Up Fund projects<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a376m in UK Shared Prosperity Fund transition funding for 2025\/26<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a360m innovation funding for Glasgow City Region (across the Innovation Accelerator 2025\/26 and new Local Innovation Partnerships Fund)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a317.3m for Energy Transition Zone<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a35m for Community Ownership Fund projects<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a32.6m for the V&amp;A in Dundee<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">\u00a3752m to deliver Scotland\u2019s 12 City Region and Growth Deals over 2025\/26 \u2013 2034\/35.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Council Leader Jane Meagher has welcomed up to \u00a320m of UK Government funding for four communities in East Edinburgh.<\/strong> <strong>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/scottish-neighbourhoods-to-be-revitalised-with-280-million-named\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pride in Place Programme funding\u00a0<\/a>was announced yesterday.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Council-Leader-Jane-Meagher.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"763\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Council-Leader-Jane-Meagher.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212529\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Council Leader Jane Meagher said:<\/strong> <strong>\u201cThe government\u2019s \u00a320m investment over the next 10 years in Niddrie, Bingham, Magdalene and The Christians is wonderful news.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe long-term certainty this brings is incredibly helpful for communities and partners alike. This is a vibrant and active community with a clear passion for shaping their own future, and this sustained funding will not only boost their hard work, it will directly give them a voice in deciding how the money is invested over the next decade. It\u2019s an approach we are keen to learn from.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe announcement strongly aligns with the council\u2019s commitment to put support at the heart of our communities where people need it most. Our city-wide poverty prevention programme, including our neighbourhood prevention partnership, is focused on tackling inequalities and improving access to help.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe look forward to working closely with the local community to establish a neighbourhood board, and to work with them over the coming years to ensure every pound is invested in line with the needs, priorities and ambitions of their community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/pride-in-place-programme-prospectus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New guidance<\/a>\u00a0outlines that Neighbourhood Boards will have to prove they have listened to and have the backing of residents and their local community to receive all their funding, ensuring that community voices sit at the heart of the decisions made about the future of their areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Any resident with big ideas and a desire to transform their community can get involved, with boards being chaired by an independent member of the community, chosen for their ambition and potential to lead their community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Local authorities and MPs in Pride in Place neighbourhoods will now begin to work with their communities to pick the right chair to take the reins of their Neighbourhood Board, lead on engagement with the community, and drive forward the changes they want to see.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Alongside the long-term \u00a3280 million investment through Pride in Place Programme neighbourhood allocations, we have also made \u00a312 million available through the Pride in Place Impact Fund (PIPIF).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This sees eight local authorities share \u00a312 million to fund the types of changes people have said they want to see. These could include new green spaces, play areas and town centre revitalisation to sports and leisure facilities and the improvement and ownership of key community assets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">That money should be spent fast by local councils so that people see and feel tangible change in their communities at the start of 2026.
