Despite being Milos Kerkez<\/a>\u2018s direct competition, the young left-back has insisted Liverpool still need \u201creally important\u201d Andy Robertson<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having played for eight years at the top level, it was a surprise when Kerkez took the experienced Robertson\u2019s place in the Liverpool team immediately after signing from Bournemouth<\/a> for \u00a340 million.<\/p>\n

While the Hungarian has struggled to adapt to life at Liverpool, he has largely remained first-choice for Arne Slot<\/a>, starting 16 times this season, whereas Robertson has started just nine matches.<\/p>\n

Kerkez, though, thinks the Scotland captain is still \u201creally important\u201d to the squad, and he was asked by liverpoolfc.com<\/a> whether competition for places would bring out the best of him.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old replied: \u201cEspecially me, I always like to compete and show the best version of myself. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s always important and especially to have competition like Robbo. You have to always \u2013 if you\u2019re playing good, if you have competition like that \u2013 you have to continue to do good. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know if you don\u2019t have competition then maybe it\u2019s possible playing top and you start to drop and then you need someone to pick you back up again. I think it\u2019s really important. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Liverpool, so there\u2019s a lot of games and you need only the best players here. That\u2019s what we have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Milos Kerkez believes Liverpool are \u201ccoming good together\u201d <\/p>\n

One issue facing Kerkez has been a slight change in role from what he was expected to do at Bournemouth<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This season, he has often been asked to play as an inverted full-back, underlapping Cody Gakpo<\/a> who clearly isn\u2019t yet on the same wavelength as the youngster.<\/p>\n

Speaking about building relationships with his teammates, Kerkez said: \u201cIt\u2019s coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do a lot of video analysis and we talk between each other with the coach and everything. With time everything comes good and in the last few weeks some results were not great and some were good. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re coming good together and when you\u2019re new \u2013 a few new players came \u2013 you need some time. I know how it was for me when I went to Bournemouth<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou need time, but what is most important is that you\u2019re willing to take on everything \u2013 competition and to learn and improve. I\u2019m like that.
