{"id":630736,"date":"2025-12-13T21:53:28","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T21:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/630736\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T21:53:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T21:53:28","slug":"wales-prop-nicky-smith-to-leave-leicester-tigers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/630736\/","title":{"rendered":"Wales prop Nicky Smith to leave Leicester Tigers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Leicester Tigers have confirmed that Nicky Smith will leave the Midlands club at the end of the season after arriving on a two-year deal in 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The loosehead prop has been a popular and respected member of the playing group since arriving from Ospreys, but has decided his future lies elsewhere after finding a deal more suitable for his longer-term playing prospects.<\/p>\n<p>The Wales international has made 32 appearances in the green of Leicester and has scored two tries. The club did offer Smith an extended contract, but at 31 years old, he\u2019s elected to choose a contract that can guarantee him longer-term stability.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/news\/munster-v-gloucester-five-takeaways-as-flattering-scoreline-leaves-irish-giants-with-more-questions-while-thuggish-hit-lightly-punished\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Munster v Gloucester: Five takeaways as flattering scoreline leaves Irish giants with \u2018more questions\u2019 while \u2018thuggish hit\u2019 lightly punished<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leicester Tigers head coach Geoff Parling reflected on the exit of his man, saying: \u201cNicky is firstly a great player, and secondly a great character to have in the changing room. With this in mind, we would have loved to have kept him for the next couple of years, but he has decided to take up a longer-term offer elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know how committed he is right now, and we\u2019ll continue to look forward to big performances from him for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will reveal another group of retained players this week and are having advanced negotiations with targeted recruits, which we will announce when things are finalised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/news\/fissler-confidential-sale-sharks-eye-double-whammy-of-saracens-stars\/\" target=\"_blank\">RugbyPass<\/a> recently reported that the likely destination for Smith will be Sale Sharks, who are also reportedly interested in the Saracens duo of Elliot Daly and\u00a0Alex Lozowski.<\/p>\n<p>Nicky Smith bio<\/p>\n<p>The front-rower was born in Swansea, where he played his amateur rugby with his home club before representing Aberavon.
