The Traitors<\/a>\u2019 Charlotte Chilton has revealed that she is having brain surgery after being rushed to A&E.<\/p>\n The star announced on social media<\/a> that she had a \u2018huge\u2019 trigeminal neuralgia attack.<\/p>\n Trigeminal neuralgia is sudden, severe facial pain which is often described as a sharp, shooting pain.<\/p>\n She shared an image of herself in a hospital bed, with the caption explaining her medical situation.<\/p>\n \u2018As many of you know I have tried to raise awareness of the condition trigeminal neuralgia. <\/p>\n \u2018I have unfortunately found myself back in hospital with a terrible attack and this has resulted in me needing another neurosurgery to control it,\u2019 she shared on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t \u2018Having surgery on your brain is always daunting, however this has long term relief and allows me to get on with my life. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tJoin Metro’s The Traitors community on WhatsApp\t\t\t<\/p>\n Want to get all the latest news and predictions for the best and most dramatic show this new year? Wish me luck and see you on the other side!!\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tWhat is trigeminal neuralgia?\t\t\t<\/p>\n The NHS describes trigeminal neuralgia as a sudden, severe facial pain, often described\u00a0as a sharp shooting pain or like having an electric shock in the jaw, teeth or gums.<\/p>\n The website explains: \u2018It usually happens in short, unpredictable attacks that can last from a few seconds to about 2 minutes. The attacks stop as suddenly as they start.<\/p>\n \u2018In most cases, trigeminal neuralgia affects just one side of the face, with the pain usually felt in the lower part of the face. Very occasionally the pain can affect both sides of the face, although not usually at the same time.\u2019<\/p>\n The charity\u00a0Trigeminal Neuralgia UK<\/a>\u00a0outlines that the condition is \u2018sudden, severe, brief, stabbing pain occurring in attacks lasting at the most a few seconds usually only on one side of the face and provoked by light touch\u2019, adding that it\u2019s described as being \u2018the worst pain known to man\u2019.<\/p>\n Trigeminal neuralgia is also known as the \u2018suicide disease\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t Charlotte has previously opened up about this debilitating issue, telling Metro in January 2024 about her struggles with the disease.<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0\u2018You don\u2019t know when you\u2019re going to have your next pain and when you do have your pain, it can be managed sometimes with painkillers or it can be to a point you\u2019re screaming, you want to stick a knife in your face because it\u2019s unbearable.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s actually known as the \u201csuicide disease\u201d because it has such a high percentage of people who [die by] suicide because it\u2019s just agony. It\u2019s the worst pain condition you can have,\u2019 she said at the time.<\/p>\n She also revealed that she had surgery on her <\/p>\n \u2018This time they shredded the nerve as well as padding it all out in the hope that this would really help and it did, but the downside is the recovery was a lot worse and short term memory loss.\u2019<\/p>\n Gesturing on the right side of her face, she added: \u2018My speech was not very good because I\u2019ve got no feeling from here, down to half of my tongue. I can\u2019t feel anything along this side.\u2019<\/p>\n She also vowed that she wouldn\u2019t let it control her life: \u2018But what I do know is that I can\u2019t let it rule me. I can\u2019t live in fear. I\u2019ve lived in fear for 10 years. This is my 30s.
