Prince Harry<\/a> revealed an awkward moment in his book Spare when his new wife, Meghan Markle<\/a>, made his sister-in-law, Princess Kate, “grimace”. In his 2023 memoir, the Duke of Sussex detailed attending the 2018 Royal Foundation Forum with his new wife and the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The \u201cawkward moment\u201d showcased a cultural clash between Meghan and Kate. The estranged Duke said: “Meg asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss. An American thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help. Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube. Meg <\/a>squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry goes on to say that the four \u201cshould\u2019ve been able to laugh about\u201d the moment, but the press \u201csensed\u201d it was \u201csomething bigger\u201d and it may have \u201cleft a mark\u201d on the women\u2019s relationship.<\/p>\n

The coverage of that Royal Foundation Forum event focused heavily on Meghan\u2019s politics, rather than the foursome\u2019s charitable work.<\/p>\n

Harry speculated: \u201cI think it had Kate on edge while putting her and everyone else on notice that she was now going to be compared to, and forced to compete with, Meg.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the memoir, Harry also spoke of disagreements between the women over Meghan and Harry\u2019s wedding. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly said that the now-Princess of Wales forgot a wedding detail due to \u201cbaby-brain\u201d, having just given birth to Prince Louis.<\/p>\n

Princess Charlotte\u2019s bridesmaid dress was then too big, and the pair disagreed on whether a new dress should be made or the original tailored.<\/p>\n

According to Harry, this ended with Kate saying she and Meghan weren\u2019t \u201cclose enough\u201d for her to talk about Kate’s hormones and William pointing at her and calling her \u201crude\u201d, adding this wasn\u2019t how Brits behaved.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry<\/a> revealed he looked forward to creating a powerful \u201cfab four\u201d even before he met Meghan and often discussed his hopes with his brother.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also said I couldn\u2019t wait for them to meet her, that I looked forward to the four of us spending lots of time together, and I confessed, for the umpteenth time, that this had long been my dream \u2013 to join them with an equal partner,\u201d Harry explains.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo become a foursome. I\u2019d said this to Willy so many times, and he\u2019d always replied: \u2018It might not happen, Harold! And you\u2019ve got to be OK with that.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, now I felt that it was going to happen and I told him so \u2014 but he still said to slow down. She\u2019s an American actress after all, Harold.
