It’s set to be a much brighter and sunnier day in Greater Manchester today following a period of heavy rain.<\/p>\n
Downpours hit the region on Sunday and continued all day into Monday<\/a>, sparking a yellow rain warning from the Met Office. Multiple flood alerts were also issued<\/a> yesterday by the Environment Agency for the Lower River Irwell, Middle River Mersey, River Bollin and Upper River Irwell.<\/p>\n This morning the alerts for the Middle River Mersey in the Trafford<\/a> area and the River Bollin around Hale<\/a> remain in force, though the water levels will be monitored later today. The weather<\/a> is set to be a lot brighter in Greater Manchester throughout the day with dry conditions forecast.<\/p>\n According to the Met Office, a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions are expected in our region this morning with a period of sunny spells forecast for this afternoon. It will feel cold with temperatures reaching a high of around 8C.<\/p>\n But the respite from the rain won’t last for long with more heavy downpours expected on Wednesday. Met Office forecasters predict heavy showers in our region throughout the whole day with temperatures reaching a high of around 10C.<\/p>\n Further rainfall is then expected on Thursday, though the showers are predicted to be lighter. On the outlook for today for the North West, the Met Office said: “A fine and bright start for most.<\/p>\n “Remaining largely settled through the day with little cloud cover allowing plenty of prolonged sunshine, though perhaps the odd light shower in the afternoon. A light breeze with temperatures near average. Maximum temperature 8C.”<\/p>\n For Wednesday, forecasters said: “Turning increasingly unsettled with strengthening winds as a rain band spreads eastwards bringing prolonged and often heavy downpours through much of the day, with coastal gales and localised flooding possible. Maximum temperature 11C.”<\/p>\n A yellow rain warning issued by the Met Office ended at 11.59pm on Monday evening. Forecasters warned that up to 40-60mm of rain was expected through the day.<\/p>\n Dozens of flights were delayed at Manchester Airport<\/a> amid the heavy rain.
