Birmingham mum says ‘no chance’ as kids plan Christmas market visits and parents speak out<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\nDet Chief Insp John Askew said: “If you’re carrying a knife, you’re more likely to be a victim. We stop a lot of people who have no involvement in gangs and were carrying a knife because they think that’s the only way to stay safe.<\/p>\n
“They tend to be quite innocent. I just want to make sure they don’t carry a knife because if you do, and you get caught, you end up in court.”<\/p>\n
Mr Askew said that while carrying a knife on the first occasion may not result in a jail sentence, offenders will still be in the court system and have to take part in rehabilitation courses.<\/p>\n
