The man died of his catastrophic injuries after he was struck by a car on Soho Road<\/p>\n

A man died and a woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The victim, said to be in his 50s, and a female, in her 40s, were struck by a Vauxhall Corsa outside Pak Supermarket on Soho Road in Handsworth at around 11.20am today, Tuesday, December 16.<\/p>\n

Emergency services gave advanced life support but the man was declared dead on the scene.<\/p>\n

The second victim remained in hospital with leg injuries. The man’s family was being supported by specially-trained officers.<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The Corsa was found near the scene.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw what happened or has any dashcam or mobile phone footage.<\/p>\n

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time as our investigation continues. We would ask motorists to please continue avoiding the area.<\/p>\n

“Anyone with any information is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1819 of 16 December.”<\/p>\n

West Midlands Ambulance Service<\/a> was called at 11.17am to Soho Road and sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers and a critical care car to the scene.<\/p>\n

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: \u201cOn arrival, crews found a man, a pedestrian, in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support. Sadly, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cA woman, also a pedestrian, was treated for serious injuries before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital<\/a> under emergency driving conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Images taken from the scene showed a blue tent set up outside Pak Supermarket. There was damage to a dark coloured Range Rover and evidence markers placed around the pavement.<\/p>\n

Trainers and tissues were also scattered around. Soho Road remained closed to both pedestrians and traffic from the junctions of Grove Lane and Rose Hill Road.<\/p>\n

Worshippers to the temple were being allowed in via the Rose Hill Road entrance and the front entrance nearest to the Nishkam Centre.
