Cooperating on China\u2019s trade barriers and overproduction is another area where Brussels sees space for cooperation with Washington.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, EU diplomats caution that any offer will be tightly constrained by internal divisions among member countries, some of whom are reluctant to be seen as yielding to U.S. pressure and others careful not to alienate one of the EU\u2019s historical allies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/13005561-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6543255\"  \/>French President Emmanuel Macron himself last month said that the EU should consider using the EU&#8217;s so-called bazooka, the anti-coercion instrument. | Pool photo by Manon Cruz\/MAXPPP OUT via EFE\/EPA<\/p>\n<p>The briefing of European ambassadors was held in a restricted setting by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen\u2019s most senior aide, Bj\u00f6rn Seibert, and the Commission\u2019s top trade official, Sabine Weyand, two EU diplomats said. The meeting is a crucial step for the Commission to keep the EU\u2019s 27 countries on board while it navigates the 90 day pause that Trump announced on some U.S. tariffs.
