Public Health Wales is investigating a suspected outbreak of cryptosporidium in people who attended calf and lamb feeding and petting sessions at Cowbridge Farm Shop at Marlborough Grange Farm, Cowbridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cryptosporidium is an infection from parasites that live in the faeces of infected animals and can cause illness in humans. Symptoms can include diarrhoea, stomach pains or cramps and nausea or vomiting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The farm initially posted a short statement announcing the closure of its petting and feeding experiences due to \u201cunforeseen circumstances\u201d but the post has since been removed from its <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/facebook\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Public Health Wales has confirmed that the farm has now voluntarily stopped these activities and is fully cooperating with the investigation. WalesOnline contacted Cowbridge Farm Shop for comment but did not receive a response. <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Stay informed on the latest health news by signing up to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=d090a537-080a-433a-826d-8127d2494876&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">our newsletter here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Symptoms of cryptosporidium can include watery diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, a mild fever and weight loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">These symptoms usually begin two to ten days after exposure and can last for up to two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Children and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to infection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Su Mably, Consultant in Health Protection at Public Health Wales, has advised anyone who has visited the farm and is now experiencing symptoms to contact their GP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe are working closely with partners to investigate these cases and to understand if there is a wider risk to the public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Public Health Wales is reminding people to follow good hygiene practices when visiting farms, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Washing hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after touching animals.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Avoiding food and drink during animal contact<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Supervising children at all times<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Cleaning boots and shoes after visiting<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Pregnant women should avoid newborn lambs during lambing season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For further information and advice visit: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/111.wales.nhs.uk\/encyclopaedia\/c\/article\/cryptosporidium\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/111.wales.nhs.uk\/encyclopaedia\/c\/article\/cryptosporidium\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Have you been affected by the suspected cryptosporidium outbreak?
