These are <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/local-elections-2025-the-poll-where-voters-roll-the-dice-13356972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seen as the first significant test<\/a> for political parties since last year\u2019s U.K. general election, which saw the Labour Party, under leader Sir Keir Starmer, <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6995176\/uk-election-result-labour-keir-starmer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">return to power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-6 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\">The May 1 elections apply to some councils and authorities in England, with over 1,600 seats being contested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-0 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\">Whilst the Labour and Conservative parties have traditionally been England&#8217;s main political bodies, right-wing politician Nigel Farage has been driving forward his Reform UK party in hopes of potentially challenging the usual British political order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-6 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\">Despite his alignment with Trump\u2019s methods and ideas, Farage has clashed with another of the President\u2019s advocates, Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-6 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\">In January, via a social media post, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1875904634419859928\">Musk called for<\/a> a new leader for the Reform UK party, saying Farage &#8220;doesn&#8217;t have what it takes.&#8221; In an interview published on April 29, Farage <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/politics\/nigel-farage-elon-musk-hero-cant-bullied-3665003?srsltid=AfmBOoodvrj9d8Z_kUDA92qpRl8yvokDAOu46vrjWeECJWk29WCpRRYB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called Musk a \u201chero,<\/a>\u201d but added that he won\u2019t be &#8220;bullied&#8221; by the billionaire when deciding on the direction his party should take.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-6 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/topics\/politics\/trackers\/voting-intention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to YouGov polls<\/a>, voting intention on April 28 showed that 26% of voters would choose Reform UK if there was an election to be held the next day. This was ahead of the current Labour government at 23%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee rich-text mb-0 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\">Trump\u2019s presence is being felt across other branches of the local elections, also. The May 1 elections include six mayoral contests, one of which is in the town of Doncaster, in the North of England.
