Lumo, which offers a daily train service from London to Edinburgh, will now finish in<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/glasgow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" Glasgow.Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"> Glasgow.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Offering low-cost travel between the Scottish and English capitals, the Lumo train will now start and end at the Glasgow Queen Street station. It will also travel via <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/edinburgh\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Edinburgh Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Edinburgh <\/a>and Falkirk High.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The low-cost operator says that the entire journey from Glasgow to London should take less than five and a half hours to complete. However, this is based on the service travellers end up choosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Lumo will be running two northbound services a day during the week, along with one southbound train. This drops to one in each direction at the weekends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Travellers Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Travellers <\/a>wanting to explore the north of England can also use this Glasgow service as the train will call at Morpeth and Newcastle, as well as Stevenage and London King&#8217;s Cross. And this isn&#8217;t the last stop on Lumo&#8217;s newest Scottish venture.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1_Glasgow-Station.jpg\" alt=\"Barriers at Glasgow Queen Street station\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Lumo service will now pass through Edinburgh and Falkirk High, before ending at Glasgow Queen Street.(Image: Jeff J Mitchell\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">According to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c87l5v39wlwo\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BBCLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">BBC<\/a>, the First Group train operator is also set to launch a daily service between Stirling and London Euston in 2026. This service will also call at Larbert, Greenfaulds, Whifflet, Motherwell and Lockerbie as it travels down to England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Speaking about the extended line into Glasgow, managing director of First Rail Open Access Stuart Jones described the launch as a &#8220;landmark moment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He added: &#8220;This offers a sustainable travel option whilst also boosting economic growth. We&#8217;re proud to champion Scotland and look forward to providing the unique Lumo service to even more customers from this week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While Scotland nationalised its rail services in 2022, and England is set to have all of their services taken into public ownership by 2027, Lumo runs on an &#8220;open access basis&#8221;. This means that the company sets its own fares and receives no taxpayer funded subsidies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Paul Tetlaw, from sustainable transport group Transform Scotland, also hopes that the new and upcoming Lumo services will help travellers to choose the train instead of flying down to London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He explained: &#8220;There is a significant market of people who currently drive or fly to the north east of England and London who now have the opportunity to switch to the train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;The new services soon to be launched from Stirling will help to build on that modal shift to rail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He also added that he hopes that the new connection into the heart of Glasgow will help bring more people to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/glasgow-2026-commonwealth-games-mascot-35601462\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"2026 Commonwealth GamesLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">2026 Commonwealth Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Following Victoria, Australia&#8217;s withdrawal from holding the upcoming sporting competition, Glasgow has taken on the task of hosting the games between July 23 and August 2 in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Glasgow last hosted the Commonwealth Games back in 2014, but is scheduled to host a scaled-down version of the event.
