Speed cameras have been set up along Small Heath Highway<\/p>\n

This is the sight of speed cameras being installed along one of Birmingham’s notorious dual carriageways.<\/p>\n

The last device was set up along the A45 Small Heath<\/a> Highway from the junction with Bolton Road to Heybarnes Circus, extending the existing operation from Berkley Rd to Bordesley Middleway.<\/p>\n

The council have been working with West Midlands Police<\/a> and the cameras are expected to go live later this week.<\/p>\n

Drivers will have to keep within the limit or face fines and penalty points if caught on camera.<\/p>\n

Temporary signage will be in place to alert drivers of the changes before enforcement begins.<\/p>\n

Campaign group Better Streets for Birmingham<\/a> said at least 23 people had died on roads in the city between June 2023 and July 2024.<\/p>\n

Previous 40mph limits have been slashed on most busy routes across the city as part of a major safety drive.<\/p>\n

Small Heath Highway is one of half a dozen routes selected for extra enforcement based on the number of collisions and where compliance with speed limits is poor.<\/p>\n

The new camera locations are:<\/p>\n

  1. A45 Coventry Road (extension of existing operation from Berkeley Road to Bordesley Middleway)<\/li>\n
  2. A47 Nechells\/Fort Parkway (A4040 Ring-road to A452 Chester Road)<\/li>\n
  3. B4121 West Boulevard (Selcroft Avenue to California Way)<\/li>\n
  4. A34 Walsall Road (Wellinton Road to Newton Road\/City Boundary)<\/li>\n
  5. B4114 Washwood Heath Road (Ward End Park Road to Bromford Lane)<\/li>\n
  6. A34 Stratford Road (Coniston Close to Robin Hood Lane)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
