As well as already announced closures along the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/a-huge-section-of-the-northern-line-will-shut-early-for-four-months-at-the-start-of-2026-121225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-north-london-piccadilly-line-station-that-will-be-exit-only-for-10-weeks-next-year-121725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Piccadilly<\/a> lines, another rail shutdown has just entered the chat.\u00a0There\u00a0are going to be several weekends of closures on the Brighton Mainline in the first few months of 2026, affecting travel from London to Gatwick Airport.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning on jetting off for a bit of winter sun (not jealous at all btw), you are probably going to need to plan your travel ahead. Here\u2019s what you need to know.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Which rail routes from London to Gatwick Airport will be affected?<\/p>\n<p>The closures will mean\u00a0there will be no connection between\u00a0Purley \/ East Croydon\u00a0and Gatwick airport.<\/p>\n<p>The route between\u00a0Brighton \/ Lewes \/ Hove and Three Bridges will also be affected\u00a0on dates separate from those affecting trains to Gatwick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What dates will the line be closed?<\/p>\n<p>The Brighton Main Line will be closed between Gatwick Airport and Purley \/ East Croydon, as well as its branches between Reigate and Redhill and between Redhill and Tonbridge, on these dates:<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>January 10-11<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>January 17-18<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>January 24-25<\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Brighton Main Line will be closed between Brighton \/ Lewes \/ Hove and Three Bridges (not affecting London travel to Gatwick) on these dates:<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>February 1<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>March 21-22<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>May 10<\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p>How to get to Gatwick during rail closures\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t panic, you\u2019ve still got options \u2013 however it is going to take a bit longer to get to LGW during the disruption. Rail replacement buses will be in service along the closed route.<\/p>\n<p>Buses will also be running to link Three Bridges or Gatwick Airport to\/from East Grinstead from where frequent trains will be running in and out of central London via East Croydon.<\/p>\n<p>A diversion train route will also\u00a0operate from Victoria station, going via\u00a0Clapham Junction.\u00a0The journey will take about 1.5 hours, compared to the usual 30-40 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why is the train route from London Bridge to Gatwick closing?<\/p>\n<p>The route is temporarily closing so that\u00a0Network Rail\u00a0can carry out essential maintenance and upgrades along the entire line.
