{"id":638438,"date":"2025-12-17T16:08:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T16:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/638438\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T16:08:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T16:08:21","slug":"jet2-plane-en-route-from-london-to-spain-forced-to-divert-to-portugal-after-red-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/638438\/","title":{"rendered":"Jet2 plane en route from London to Spain forced to divert to Portugal after red alert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A packed holiday jet heading from London Stansted to the Canary Islands has been diverted to Portugal following a red alert.<\/p>\n<p>The Jet2 Boeing 737 was on its way to Fuerteventura but instead is scheduled to land shortly at Faro Airport on the Algarve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One local source said the airplane had suffered possible engine failure but this has not yet been confirmed by officials or Jet2.<\/p>\n<p>The flight, EXS83LV, was scheduled to land in Fuerteventura at 12.15pm local time after departing London Stansted just before 8am.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services including paramedics and firefighters are understood to have been put on standby at Faro Airport as part of protocol red alert procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Civil Protection said 35 vehicles and more than 80 responders had been mobilised, including their workers, police, ambulances and firefighters.<\/p>\n<p>Squawk Alert, which follows commercial airlines that declare emergencies, said on X: &#8220;The crew of Jet2 flight EXS83LV from London to Fuerteventura has declared an emergency and are diverting to Faro.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another flight emergency site said: &#8220;Diverting to Faro due to a problem with engine number one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"e6d67\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"6edd79f5e1b6cf390a76dc6910fa8ee3\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202000%201423'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/u200bthe-flight-had-to-be-diverted.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1423\" alt=\"\\u200bThe flight had to be diverted\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Jet2 flight had to be diverted (file pic)<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>PA<\/p>\n<p>Local reports say 179 people were on the plane and the red alert was sounded at 10.24am local time, around half an hour before it touched down.<\/p>\n<p>A Jet2 spokesman said: &#8220;The crew operating flight LS1451 from London Stansted to Fuerteventura followed standard operating procedure and elected to divert to Faro earlier today, after reporting an irregular indication.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The crew requested a priority landing and the aircraft landed safely. A standby aircraft is being flown to Faro so that customers can continue their journey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jet2 confirmed there was no engine failure throughout the duration of the flight.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"81e61\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"fbcf657a674c97d5a206da3efab715ef\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%205744%202761'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/ryanair-plane.jpg\" width=\"5744\" height=\"2761\" alt=\"Ryanair plane\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A Ryanair flight had to be diverted due to a toilet malfunction<\/p>\n<p> | PA<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month a plane packed with returning UK tourists had to divert following mid-air toilet malfunction. <\/p>\n<p>Ryanair flight FR1667 should have reached Bristol around 5pm on December 8 after departing from Fuerteventura at lunchtime.<\/p>\n<p>But it diverted to the neighbouring Canary Island of Lanzarote shortly into its 3.5 hour journey after &#8220;some toilets&#8221; stopped working according to local air traffic controllers.<\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear this morning what exactly the problem, which in the past has led to passengers being forced to use bottles to relieve themselves, had been.<\/p>\n<p>The plane touched down in Lanzarote just before 3pm on December 8 after an hour and a half up in the air.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish air traffic controllers said on social media: &#8220;The flight crew on a plane from Fuerteventura to Bristol asked to return to Lanzarote because of problems with some of the toilets.
